Hevn. The starter CD version I have is 12.0.0....At speed of my connection the download of the 14.0.0 version by my calculation will take nearly 2 hours. Does that sound about righr to you? I'm pretty sure the download speed is about 5 to 8 kb. on dial-up net zero. I have a lap top that I can take to my bank that has wi-fi and much faster connection. Is it possible to down load the 14.0.0 version on that and copy to CD? I'm afraid that if I try to just down load on the dial-up it my not go correctly or possibly get kicked of the connection. Let me know what you think.

Do you know what this GP Base Service thing is? A virus or spyware or trojan ???

Thanks for your patience and help.

Hi RockinRay,

Ok, we need to download the newest version of software. Now with that being said, you do have the option to save to a USB flash drive/ CD and then open it on your computer that is running XP, if you wanted to use the faster more reliable connection.

What we can try first, is to see if the download gives us an estimated time when we start to download on your XP, here is the link for the download:

As for the GP Base Services, after some research, there are a few answers none of which I can confirm. All I know is we want to get it fixed, so we can get rid of that annoying pop up you are still receiving.

Let's go ahead and start the download and see how long the estimated time is, please let me know. I think the longest part of the reinstall will be the download, after that we will be flying through Ray. 🙂

Hevn. I started the down load and it did gve an estimated time. It started out at about 20 hrs to download and then went to 15 hrs. and that is typical in download on the dialup connection. As I suspected, I dont think it would work. I'll go to the wifi connection and try to save it to a cd. I'm not sure how to do that but when the down load starts it ask if I want to run or save. What do I want to do at that point. If you can give me some instruction, I'm pretty sure I can get it done. I'll have to do this a little later today.

Thanks

Ray,

I have found this great document on How to Save Documents to a CD using Windows XP. This will walk you through step by step and has some screenshots, which I prefer. Please click on the blue link above to get started. 🙂

Hevn. You are soooo patient.... I spent the day preparing for a major winter storm here at my little ranch. I'm in north east Texas and we don't get this often. So I was unable to get the CD download. I might get iced in tonight and tomorrow and maybe even on Saturday. I'll get it as soon as possible. I tried to open the link you sent on saving to a CD on XP but had a problem with that. I think I can work my way thru it. If I remember correctly it will ask how I want to save it. Any way I really appreciate your help. I'll be watching for your messages to me and hope we can resume at a time when I am able to get the download. Again ... THANKS A LOT.  Are you in an area that this storm is going to affect your weather?

Ray,

Well thank you for the update, and I hope the storm has passed you. I am in Ontario, Canada. We have got lots of snow today, but not enough to stay home. 🙂 I am here all day again, if you want some help. Yes, you are correct, the download will ask you were you would like to save it.
