HP 1020
Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit)

When  double sided printing is selected the second can't be printed because the window to CONTINUE with the second step as closed. Actually it was grayed out when it did show. The next time something is printed the second page will print.

New drivers were installed.

Running Win 7 & IE.

Selecting Double Sided in Printer Preferences does not change it.

Hi @AWinters,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!

I understand that you're having issues printing 2 sided on your HP LaserJet 1020 Printer. I would like to help you with this.

I would try the steps within this guide, Printing on Both Sides of the Paper (Duplexing) for LJ1018, 1020, and 1022 Series Printers

The HP LaserJet 1018, 1020, and 1022 series printers have two-sided printing capability. Printing on both sides of the paper, or duplexing, can be done manually by running the paper through the printer twice.
To print on both sides of the paper (manual two-sided printing), follow the instructions below.
NOTE:  Manual two-sided printing can cause the printer to become dirty, reducing print quality.
  1. From an open document, click File, and then Print.
  2. Make certain that the HP LaserJet printer is selected as the printer name.
  3. Click Properties, and then the Finishing tab.
  4. Click on Print on Both Sides (Manually) to place a checkmark in the box. Are you able to select this option or is it grayed out?
  5. To print click OK and then OK again.
NOTE: Not all printer features are available from all drivers or operating systems. See the printer properties (driver) online Help for information about availability of features for that driver.
  6. When the Print on both sides instruction dialog window appears on the PC's monitor, follow the instructions.
  7. After side one has printed, gather the printed pages, turn the printed side down, and straighten the stack.
  8. Place the stack back in the input tray. Side one should be facing down with the bottom edge feeding into the printer first.
  9. Click Continue to print side two.

If you are still experiencing issues:

  • Which browser are you trying to print from? If you can't select continue, try printing from another browser like Internet Explorer, FireFox or Google Chrome.
  • In the meantime, please run the HP Print and Scan DoctorWhat were the results when you ran the Print and Scan Doctor? (did it print or scan, any error messages)

Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. I look forward to hearing from you. Good Luck! 🙂
