Hello- my printer is about 3 years old and I've pretty much only used it for standalone copying. (no printing via my computer, no scanning or anything from my computer)
After recently replacing both ink cartridges (which I've always done myself since I bought printer), the printer isn't copying anymore.
After I press "copy" a sheet of paper goes through the machine but it comes out blank.
Any ideas or troublehooting tips would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Sweet_Dad ,
Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having an issue with printer sending out a blank page when attempting to do a copy.
Does this happen when printing from the computer as well?
I do have a few steps that we can run through.
First off, please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
Do a proper power cycle after the printer has been connected to a wall outlet with the use of the on/off button. This will do a semi power reset on the printer.
I have also located a document that we can try on "Printer Prints a Blank Page or Does Not Print Black or Color Ink for the HP Photosmart 5510 e-All-i....
Let me know how you make out. If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to ask.
Cheers,

Thanks for your reply. The reset didn't help.. same result. When I printed a test page via my computer it looked incomplete ("Windows Printer Test Page" printed out in very light black letters, but the Windows color logo came out in beautiful full color- red, green, blue, and yellow).
From the printer display I also went to Tools and selected Printer Status Report. All that printed was 4 sets of brackets in the middle of the page
[ ] [ ] [ ] [ ]
a yellow color bar was in the 2nd bracket, blue in the 3rd and purple in 4th. The 1st bracket was blank

I also ran the Clean Printhead tool and upon completion it printed out a test page but it was largely blank (no text) until the last row which was 6 colored rectangles.
Looks like the issue is pertaining to black printing only.

Here is a scan of the test page that printed as a result of the Print & Scan Doctor 4.6. (The first three rows were of text were so light they did not show up on the scan so I didn't include it below.) To the naked eye these rows of text of very very light black (the full alphabet in upper and lower case on each row) But below you can see the very light black/gray square.

Hi @Sweet_Dad
Since you have completed the troubleshooting suggested by Waterboy71, and the issue remains unresolved, I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post serial numbers and case details.
If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, this post has instructions.

Thanks for letting me know.
Since the new color cartridges clearly work properly, could it be that the ink in the new black cartridge is blocked or not coming out as it should?
Is there a method for cleaning off the cartridge (or the printer) with a cotton swab that I could try? How about the cartridge contacts?
Thanks

HP suggest the following document; "Printer Prints a Blank Page or Does Not Print Black or Color Ink for the HP Photosmart 5510 e-All-i....
This is the one Waterboy provided previously. At this point, I can only suggest you wait for somebody to reach out to you to see what can be done. Thanks for reaching out to the HP Forums.

Why wasn't I referred to a thread like this one? Or other similar posts about owners with same no black printing issue? There are several tips I could have tried yesterday!
