I don't know why this worked for you but it isn't a solution for the rest of us.

I can scan to computer fine if I connect my laptop to my Photosmart C7180 with a usb cable. Without the cable, it will not scan to computer. I cannot keep the laptop connected to the Photosmart by USB cable. I need it to work through wireless. I've tried every "fix" suggested and nothing works. I think HP needs to address this issue. I can scan using the workaround with the browser but I would like to have access to all the settings and do it right. How about an updated driver, HP? We were told this printer could scan to computer through wireless when we purchased it.

This thread is fascinating as I have had all the same problems.

At the moment the HP5514 is connected via USB cable and cannot find the computer (Windows 7) to scan despite it being able to print from PC!

This is a replacement from HP for the 5510 and I have been extrememly dissatisfied with both printers, despite it getting a great review in PCPro magazine.

I am at a loss as to how to get my hp5514 scanner to work, as I have tried everything.

I never did get the scanner function to work with Windows 7.   It worked just fine on my Windows XP machine so I determined the problem to be an "incompatibility" issue with Windows 7.   I spent lot of time collecting logging information and dumps for HP but never did resolve the issue.   The person that I was doing this work for, decided he did not need the scanning function anyway, so he just uses the printer and copy fuctions which work just fine.   Therefore I abandoned doing anymore debugging on the issue.  Good luck.   Jim

Hi craftyalice-

Have you ran the HP Print and Scan doctor yet?   There's a thread regarding this that's stickied in the Scanning / Faxing forums.  Can you let me know what it found?

I am an HP employee, however, this content reflects my personal opinion and is in no way associated with HP.
