HP 6100 Printer
Microsoft Windows XP

I am getting an error message that the ink jet system has failed with the following error code:

0xc18a0401

It says to turn the printer off and on again.  I have tried this about 6 times, with no success.

My printer is 10 years old, so maybe its time is up, but I'd like to try and solve for it.

The message shows an ink system failure.

Appreciate anyone's help on this.

Could you please confirm the printer model? Do you have the HP Officejet 6100 e-printer?

The troubleshooting steps in the document here may help resolve the ink system error message.

Bob, thank you for trying.  The printer still shows the same error message.

What should I do?

At this point the only thing I could suggest would be a new printer if the reset procedure did not resolve the issue.

Bob, thank you for the assist.

is there an HP product now that you'd recommend with the features of my current printer?

Best regards,

Joe

Hi Joe -

HP seems to have de-emphasised photo printing with its latest offerings, and has discontinued the Photosmart line.

Which of the Photosmart C6180 features are important to you:

  • Individual ink tanks
  • Six ink system
  • Borderless printing
  • Scan, Copy, Print and Fax
  • Photo card slots (if so, what format?)
  • Wired and Wireless network connectivity
  • Double sided printing
  • Automatic Document Feeder
  • Other?

About how many photo and plain paper prints do you print per month?

I do not think that I can find anything that matches the Photosmart C6180, but if you let me know what features are important I may have some suggestions.
