HP Officejet 6600
OS X

I have a one year old HP Officejet 6600 wireless printer. I can print wirelessly from all my Apple devices, Macbooks, iPads, Iphones, with no problem but it has suddenly stopped letting me copy or scan. I checked for paper jams and I unplugged a couple times. I even downloaded new software.  It just says, Unable to scan, copy or send fax.  It worked fine a couple weeks ago.

Hi @lizgwalker , and welcome to the HP Forums!

I see you're having scan and copy errors. I would like to try and help.

I would recommend performing a power reset on the printer.  Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.

I'd also suggest following this document on A 'Scanner Failure' Message Displays on the Printer Control Panel.

Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

Thanks, Jamieson.  That worked perfectly.  I had unplugged it before from the back but not the wall.  Who would have thought such a simple solution would do the trick?

Unfortunately, your power reset suggestion didn't help me solve my copying issue.  I am not getting any type of error message at all.  When I hit "COPY," the words "Starting Copy" come on the screen and just spools (circles around the HP logo) without printing.  I've allowed it to spool for over 10 minutes and it didn't print.  I tried unplugging the power cord from the wall and the printer, let it rest for over 2 minutes, they replugged, but that didn't help.  When I again tried to copy, it just began the spooling process again.  P. S. It prints fine; it just won't copy or scan.

I also have a just over one  year old HP Officejet 6600 that stopped scanning and copying. This seems to be a pretty common occurence based on the information I am reading. This is ridiculous!! Almost seems like it's built to fail at this point. Called HP Support and received no help because something had expired. Going to start looking at reviews OTHER than HP.

I have seen this error on this site but cannot see a resolution, so here's hoping.

I have unplugged the printer for a few minutes from the wall socket in hope of resolution, but sadly to no avail.  I just get the message 'Starting Copy' but this just  loops endlessly on the screen if I try to copy a document.

I can print via blue tooth with no problem or direct from the PC - just cannot copy.

Any ideas please?

@SheenaD

Welcome to the HP Forums. I would be happy to help you with your HP Officejet 6600 printer. I understand that you are unable to scan or copy and you have already done some preliminary troubleshooting.

However, I will need a few details to provide an accurate solution,

  • Open the printer lid and initiate scan, check of the scanner bulb is lit up and moving across the scanner glass.

Meanwhile:

Reset the printer.

  • Unplug the printer power cable when it is turned on.
  • Press and hold the power button for 60secs.
  • Connect the power cable to printer and directly to the wall outlet.
  • Turn on the printer.

Reply with the result of the above-mentioned steps, for further assistance.

Cheers.
