That's it!  This actually worked.  I turned off the Universal Plug and Play and gave the printer a static IP.  I have been able to put the sleep back on at 15 minutes and for the past two weeks+ we have not once lost connection.  Printer wakes up on demand and connects to the network.

Here's the solution - found it under another discussion...

Turning off Universal Plug and Play on the printer definitely fixed the problem. I couldn't go more than 45 minutes without a "reboot/crash/network drop" - whatever was happening. I have now gone over 3 hours. Definitely fixed. SO....

Everybody - turn off your UPnP (under Networking on the Network tab of the printer web page).

HP - fix the real problem - this is just a work around!

Thanks everybody for pursuing this for so long! I get to sleep through the night tonight!

The solution stopped the printer from "coming to life" every hour but I noticed it still loses (or checks for?) connection fairly frequently. The blue light starts flashing and the LCD screen comes on. After 10 or 15 seconds it finds the network and goes back to sleep. The good part is that the scanner or print heads don't start moving around. The bad part is if this happens in the middle of scanning, the scanner screws up.

Bottom line: I don't get woken up all night but there's still something wrong. I have an HP 7460 which is like one generation back from the 7520. It's wireless and has never had this issue. I sure wish HP would figure out what's actually happening here.

Not much help when your printer doesn't stay connected long enough to change this setting. I can't get the web page to see the printer and have to configure each and every time. I lose the connection before getting the code to authorize.

Changing the pnp feature didn't change anything with mine either. I still have to plan ahead to print. Turn printer off, count to 10, turn it back on, run to the printer, select print, pray it doesn't disconnect before it finishes.

I do the exact same thing.   Line up a bunch of invoices to be printed and pray it decides to co-operate.  😞    Very disappointed with HP    Will never again buy another one of their products.   Just waiting for something else to come on sale and will give my HP away and hope they don't plan on using it wireless.

For me, it was the new router/modem our ISP gave us.  I called them and worked with them.  After trying all of the settings that were recommended it still did not work and they could not figure out what the problem was so they gave me back our old one and it has not disconnected even once in several months.

I am glad that worked out for you gill05. I feel like this printer should work with any router just like the rest of my equipment. If I knew I needed to buy a specific router beforehand i would not have bought the printer. I have a common late model router that all other equipment works perfectly with. This is ridiculous. HP caused this problem in development, not the router manufacturers. They need to recall or fix this issue but obviously refuse to do so.

Prof,

I'm having the same issue. My router is through Verizon Fios. The Model Number is 9100EM (UltraLine Series3). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I am happy to say that I am finally going to have a permanent fix to my HP printer troubles.   I am throwing it out as I have a brand new Cannon printer supposed to be arriving today.   And, I got such a terrific deal at $39.99 (regular $99.93) I don't even care if it doesn't have as good print quality or anything else for that matter because I know it will work when I want it to.  I won't be having to go through the whole process of turning my printer off, unplugging my router, making sure I have my documents ready for printing and then starting everything up one at a time.     Good luck to everyone else with the issues we are having.     Too bad HP can't see how much business they are going to lose because of their lack of support.   Merry Christmas everyone.

You won't be getting any help from HP, sorry

There have been many posts on this subject. I have a  HP7520 and HP5510 model printers. They both lost connection constantly. I tried most of the "fixes" with no success.

What worked for me is changing your IP address to a static IP address. Sounds a little daunting to some people but not that hard to do. Here is the web site that explains exactly how to do it. The last three numbers in the IP address I used were 250 for one and 251 for the other. I never lose wireless connection now.   http://www.hp.com/global/us/en/wireless/faq.html
