I have just hooked up my Windows PC to the HP C4200 scanner, printer and copier. It prints fine but when I try to scan, it says 'USB not connected'. It is connected. My daughter has used this printer on her Mac products and says it has never scanned to those devices either. Please help

Hi rcd22,
Thank you again for the reply!
There is definitely full feature software available for Windows 7 for your Photosmart C4280. Please check each computer and see if you have the HP Solution Center there and if you can scan by opening it.
If you don't have the HP Solution Center, please download and install the Full Feature Software and Driver for your printer. Please make sure to unplug the USB cable before you begin the installation and do not plug it back in until the software asks you to.
Let me know how things go!

Hi rcd22,
I understand you have a Photosmart C4200 you're using with a Windows computer that won't scan. I'm sorry to hear this hasn't been working, but I will definitely do my best to assist you in this, I just need to ask a few questions first
1. Which model of C4200 do you have?
2. Which version of Windows are you using?
3. Are you starting the scan from the PC or the printer?
3. a) If you're starting it from the PC, what program are you using?
4. Do you receive any other errors besides the attach the USB cable error?
Once I have this information I should be able to offer some suggestions for you!

Hi rcd22,
Thank you for the reply!
I need to know the version of Windows on each machine, could you click on this link on each computer and tell me whether they have Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8 or 8.1? Thank you!
Have you tried initiating the scan from the computer? You should have an HP Solution Center on each computer if the HP software is available and you've installed it.
You can download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor until I know your versions of Windows and see what it has to offer.
I look forward to hearing back from you!
