Hi @macmanZ,
I understand that you are having issues with the printer not going into sleep mode. I would like to help you.
Make sure the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet. (don't use a power hub or a surge protector) This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
Is the printer networked? (wireless, ethernet)
Are you using a fixed IP?
What kind of network do you have setup? (router, switch)

Hi @Gemini02,
This is still an ongoing issue. The printer either doesn't go to sleep (screen stays lit) or it will go to sleep and not wake up for a print job. However I can access it to scan and can connect to the web settings page via the IP address.
I have called HP Australia support and they acknowledge this as a problem and said that a firmware update will come out (eventually) to rectify this. Is there any update on this?

Hi @tangcla,
Thanks for sharing that information. I haven't heard anything specifically on the firmware updates for this model.
You can check the latest firmware available from this link. Software and Drivers.
I checked for the Windows 7 operating system and the latest firmware is showing Apr 30, 2015.
You can print a Configuration Page to find out which firmware is presently on the printer.
Thank You.

Hi @tangcla,
I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post serial numbers and case details.

Hi,
I've been working with HP support in The Netherlands and they gave me a lot of suggestions and were very cooperative. In the meantime I've setup a fixed IP address on a wired LAN connection. Mounted the power plug directly to a wall outlet (I have to mention that my house is completely protected by a lightning conductor system including a power surge protection for the entire house). Updated the firmware to the latest version. Configured the mac address of my printer as a specific WOL (Wake-On-LAN) device in my Asus RT-AC87U router. Played around with numerous other LAN settings on my router. I received two identical replacement printers from HP with the latest firmware as well (great service), but unfortunately they too went all to sleep and didn't wake up. When I send a print job while the printer is in sleep mode, the job cancels at about 20% - 30%. After that I have to power cycle the printer and then it works again until the next time the printer goes to sleep. I've tried Mac OS X, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 and different mobile devices, all with the same outcome.
This indicates that it is something environmental (although I find a lot of similar cases on the Internet with different HP models). It is also strange that the printer is always accessible via the web interface and that a scan job CAN wake up the printer?!
The problem doesn't seem to occur when connected with USB, but that is an unacceptable option for me. Odd thing also is, that this printer replaced another HP Photosmart network printer, which worked fine and always woke up from sleep under the same conditions.
I'm out of options ... and currently waiting for a proposal from HP.
Kind regards,
Marty

I too have the same problem with my HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M177fw.
Firmware is current according to the HP website. (Firmware Date: 20150228)
The behavoir is the same. Printing is fine, the printer will go to sleep after a print job is processed (it is set at 5 minutes), but after a SCAN, the printer does not follow the sleep timer setting. The printer remains on.

Hi @409industries,
Welcome back to the HP Support Forums! I read your post and see that the printer won't go into sleep mode after scanning.
I would like to help you out today.
The other posters are having issues with the printer not waking up to print. I would be grateful that your printer isn't going into sleep mode.
I can send you a reset in a private message, if you still want to try and resolve this issue. You will have to setup the printer over the network again, if the printer is networked. In the forum beside your handle name just click on the envelope to view it.
If the issue continues, please Contact HP Support for further assistance. Fill in the model number and the form to receive a case number for quicker assistance.
Please let me know the outcome. Thank you.

Hi,
We also have the same problem with the printer that donot wake-up when connected via WIFI after it have went into sleep. The built-in webserver works and report "working" as status, even th it is sleeping. I have as previusly suggested tested with manual IP settings and also automatic IP. I have also added the mac adress in the router to enable wake on lan but the printer do not wake up.
To print we actually need to manually turn-off the printer followed by power-up. Moste often we need to re-print the material we want to print (since it dissapered from the que). Sometime we need to delete the printer-job, and reprint it, it do not work to restart it. We have tested from at least three different computers (win 7 & win 8).
This is actually the third M177 printer within a year that do not work as it should, and we did unpack it from the box yestureday, the fimeware is dated to 20150228, with production date november 2015.
Could you advice me on the future plan for this modell of the printer?
It feels a bit stange to have a wifi printer that dose not work.
We actually also have another wifi printer from another vendor (Brother) and this wifi printer have been working without any problem for long time now.
The best would be if you could advice me to a solution to the problem!
Cheers,
Torbjörn
