I have an all-in-one printer, scanner, copier. Everything works fine and has been installed with the installation cd, but when I try to scan something I get an error message stating: "Scanner communication cannot be established. Ensure your product is powered on, check the connection, and ensure your network is functioning properly. If these conditions are correct, restart the product and try scanning again. If you are running firewall software, it may be blocking scan communication. Please visit www.ho.com/go/wirelessprinting for help configuring your firewall."
I have done each of these suggested things, except configuring any firewalls, because I do not have any firewalls and my device is not wireless equipped. But I have also gone thru the process of uninstalling it, reinstalling it, updating drivers, etc. Nothing is working to fix this issue.
PLEASE HELP!
Thanks!!

Hello yjnolan
You may need to check if the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) Services are running. If you notice any services missing make note of it but continue through the steps.
1. Type services.msc in run or search program and files
2. Scroll down to the WIA Windows Image Acquisition
3. Make sure that this service is running. Click Stop, and then Restart to make sure
4. Restart the computer
Restart the Dependencies services:
1. Click on Start, in Search box type “services” without quotes.
2. Scroll down until you see Windows Image Acquisition (WIA).
3. Double click on it and go to the tab called Dependencies.
4. 2 services should be listed.
5. Exit that window and look for Remote Procedure Call (RPC).
6. Make sure it’s on manual or if it is on Auto, just leave it. Make sure the service is started though.
7. Go to Shell Hardware Detection and Double click.
8. Set the Start up Type as Manual and hit Apply.
9. You should be able to Start the service by hitting Start.
10. Now you are done and the Twain Manager should be working and not give you an error.
Check dependencies or sub dependencies:
Right click on WIA (Windows Imaging Acquisition) selecting first properties and then the dependencies tab. It should list: Remote Procedure Call RPC and Shell Hardware Detection
Under RPC it will then list DCOM Service Process Launcher and RPC Endpoint Mapper Go back to the main services.msc list and then right click and start all the items listed as dependencies or sub dependencies under WIA

Hello yjnolan
What operating system are you using? Since you are using USB have you tried to use a different USB port? Also how long is your USB cable? Something you may want to try if you are running windows is the HP Scan Diagnostic Utility. Found at the link below.

Hi. Thanks for answering! The operating system on the computer I've recently been using (which is my fiance's laptop) is Windows 7. Yes, I have tried different USB ports. There are 3 on this laptop and it doesn't make a difference which one its plugged into. The USB cord is kind of long, but I've never had a problem before. If the issue is as simple as how long the usb cord is, I'll go buy a shorter one!
My personal laptop has Windows Vista on it and the scan function worked without an issue on that one.
What I don't understand is why it will print and copy, but it won't scan??
I have used the HP Scan Diagnostic Utility twice and it advised the same thing both times: to turn off the device and turn it back on; download correct drivers; download full software, etc. All of which I have already tried... twice. I hope you understand my frustration! Please help!
Thanks again!

Hello yjnolan
I don't think you need to go purchase a different USB cable just yet I was simply stating that sometimes USB cables of 9' (3M) or more in length cause scanning issues.
Are you able to make stand alone copies? Are you able to install the printer on a different printer.

The USB cable is less than 6 feet long. Yes, I am able to make stand-alone copies. Originally the printer was installed on my personal laptop, then installed on my fiance's laptop. So, yes, I guess I am able to install it on different computers.

Hello yjnolan
Do you receive a specific error and are you trying to scan from Solution Center? Try scanning from several of the methods described in the post below. Its a good workaround until we can resolve the scanner problem as well as a test to see other applications can scan.

I have tried scanning from the Solution Center, Windows Fax & Scan, Paint, as well as trying to "import a photo using scanner" function through Windows Live Photo Gallery, which were all suggestions through HP Support. Absolutely nothing is working.
