HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 4645
Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite

HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 4645 cannot print on photo paper 100x150 mm.

I insert photo paper as it is recommended in manual and try to print jpg file from iPhone 6 (iOS8.3) and from Macbook (OS 10.10). The result is almost the same: 1/3 of the photo is only printed with some strange lines on the opposite side of the paper. Printing on the usual paper A4 is normal. I also tried different settings for paper size and quality - doesnt help.

Hey @Vladimir15,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!

I understand that you're experiencing issues when printing on 100 x 150 mm photo paper from your HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 4645 e-All-in-One Printer. I would like to assist you today with resolving this Photo paper printing issue. Because printing on plain white paper is fine we know that the printers paper path is responding as per normal. There is a chance that a setting issue, or media conflict is occuring. Before I am able to accurately guide you to a solution I do need to clarify a few things.

  • (1) What type of photo paper are you using (glossy, matte)?

  • (2) What is the weight of the photo paper that you're using?

As per the specifications for your HP Deskjet the recommended Photo paper to use is HP Glossy Photo Paper and HP Advanced Photo Paper. I did find that the 100 x 150 mm size of paper that you're trying to print on is within the specifications of your printers media capabilities, but is listed as a supported plain paper size:

The supported Photo paper sizes, and weight are listed as supported:

- Source (Specifications)

Therefore, your HP Deskjet may not be able to handle the Photo paper in the specific size that you're printing on.

When loading Photo paper in the paper tray always ensure that you only load that specific media in the paper tray. In other words, do not mix paper types in the paper tray. You want to avoid loading Photo paper on top of plain paper as this may cause the paper to 'slip' when feeding into your machine.

To verify if this photo printing issue is being caused by your printer hardware I am going to have you perform a test Copy on the Photo paper.

  1. Please load Photo paper in your paper tray
  2. Load a test document to Copy on the flatbed glass on your printer
  3. On the front panel of your printer select the Copy button
  4. From the Copy menu press the Down key to select Paper Type
  5. Choose a Photo paper option
  6. Perform your Black or Colour Copy

If the Photo paper feeds and copies successfully than this Photo printing issue is not being caused by your printer. If the Photo paper fails to Copy than the Photo printing issue is being caused by your printer. I would suggest testing Photo printing on Photo paper that is listed within the Photo paper specifications of your machine to verify if your paper size is causing the conflict.

Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. I look forward to hearing from you! 🙂

1) I use Lomond Glossy 10x15 230gsm and I load it correctly -face down
2) I've made coping - the result is not correct - not all photo was copied, the image moved from the right side aproximately 30mm and from the upper side 5-7mm

Hey @Vladimir15,

Thanks for getting back to me regarding this photo printing issue. The weight and the glossy type of paper that you're using are well within the specifications for your specific printer. Upon further investigation the 10 x 15 cm  (4 x 6 in) size of photo paper that you're using should also be fine. Because your Copy test failed and the image was shifted on the page I'm thinking that the paper is slipping in the paper path as it's being fed. To resolve this issue I'm going to have you run a troubleshooting steps to add some 'wear' to your rollers to allow them to grab and feed the glossy paper without issues.

  1. Load blank plain white paper in your paper tray
  2. Load a blank sheet of paper on your flatbed glass
  3. Run a test Black Copy. Please change the number of pages to 50
  4. Your machine will feed 50 blank sheets through the paper path. No ink will be used during this process.
  5. Once the 50 pages have been fed through successfully please try to Copy a photo on your Glossy photo paper again to verify if the Copy now prints correctly

Please let me know if this step resolves your glossy photo printing issue. Best of luck! 🙂

Hello once again,

I've run black copy test for 50 pages. The result is the same - the photo is printed with the shift

I have a new one printer, on A4 it prints correctly, the problem is only with the photopaper. and the rollers can't be dirty.

I've read the guides and inspected the printer and tried to fulfil the recomendations. All the reports Print Quality are ok. It prints good on the A4 paper. But when I want to print on the photopaper it is still bad. It seems that feeding photopaper is not correct on this model.
