Hi @Ajstover,

Good Day.  A warm welcome to the HP community. I reviewed the post about the printer displaying a server connection error.I will be delighted to assist you here.

Superb description, brilliant troubleshooting and terrific observations made before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂

  • Did this happen after a recent software or operating system update?
  • Is it a windows or Mac operating system?

For a Windows PC please follow all the prescribed steps from this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-envy-5530-e-all-in-one-printer-series/5304881/model/5304882/... and perform all the prescribed steps to try and resolve the issue.

Under “other things to try” option, please try to disable IPV6  and assign a static or manual IP address also. This is important.

If it is a MAC please try all the prescribed steps from this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-envy-5530-e-all-in-one-printer-series/5304881/model/5304882/...

It is important to try all these steps patiently to resolve the issue.

Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great.

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

Take care now and have a superb week ahead. 🙂

Thanks for the advice. I have a mac and recently did a recent operating system update to macOS  Sierra 10.12.4. I tried the what you recommened  and still cannot scan document to email.

I'm recieving errror message:

" Server Conection Error" also says "The printer was unable to connect to server. Check the Inernet connection and try again, or set a proxy address."
