Hi all!
I'd very much appreciate a solution to my agony.
We recently purchased a HP LaserJet 400 colorMFP M475dw multifunction printer. Now I'm trying to set it up (browser administration -> Scan --> Outgoing E-mail Profiles) to send scanworks by email but facing following problems:
1. When typed in all the credentials correctly, even the "Test & Save" option takes ages. After cople attempts I got it succesfully tested.
2. Using my personal gmail-accout as sender, the scanning work takes a long time. It stops in connecting smtp server phase for quite a long time before even starting the actual scan.
3. Using the company's newly created email accounts as sender, it takes even longer. I just timed it to take 6 minutes and 23 seconds before it started the actual scanning.
4. Now it seems to send the scan ok, but with some of the first attempts it failed with some general error message asking to try again.
In my opinion the time it takes is totally unacceptable. Is this some known issue and is there a workaround?
Our company emails run on MS Office 365 and I'm using smtp.office365.com as the smtp server, port 587 and SSL/TLS checked (tried unchecked too). As I said with Gmail it might not be as slow but still very very very slow.
Please help?

I know this is an old thread but just in case anyone is still having problems with this - I managed to fix it by disabling IPv6 in Network -> Advanced in the web server admin. Connecting to smtp.gmail.com went from 3 minutes+ to a couple of seconds.

From what you are describing you are having issues with your scan to email time. What information you have posted makes me think that there is a network requirelment that is slowing the process or possibly a security protocol on your network which is holding up the process. Do you know if this same effect happens if you were to set up the printer on a computer off this network and try again?
Let me know and I will get right back with you!

PS I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Thanks for the reply.
I'm not sure I understand what you mean, but there should be nothing special about the network. The printer is not connected to any computer with a cable but we are using WLAN to print. It works fine and fast. Also the same internet connection is very fast in normal computer use. I think it's 100/10. I have same a printer of the same model at home and I've set up the same scan to email feature with my gmail-account there. It's pretty slow the same way as at the office, but not as slow. I would guess at home it takes 1-2 minutes before it starts scanning.
It's difficult to start moving the machine around to test different networks, but I could try it through iPhone hotspot to see if there's a difference. I'll report here how it was.

Hi, got the same problem yesterday when I was installing a 475dw. Haven't tried the last firmware, but it doesnt seem to be listed as a problem in the firmware relesenotes.
I also tried to cancel twice(Scann to email). Both time I had to disconnect the power cable to get the printer working again.

What I mean by security requirements is that on most networks through a router there is an internal firewall to screen the data which is streamed to your devices. If the opreation is slow, but does work, that is indicative of a possible security issue which is holding up the printer from communicating immediately. The iPhone hotspot won't work because it is not a stable network for the printer to operate on.
I know that it may seem odd, but I would like to see if the same issues occur on another wireless network apart from the one that you are using at the time. I apologize in advance for the inconvenience, but it would be a useful diagnostic test. Additionally, can you test it with a wired-network connection?
Let me know how this goes!

I also wanted to know if a HP M575f MFP is able to scan-to-email to MS Office 365 before buying the printer.
Because I didnt find reliable information in the internet, I contacted HP Germany.
Today they told me that HP printers don't support Office 365. The original wording was:
'Allerdings wird Office 365 nicht von unseren HP Druckern unterstützt.'
So far my present knowledge.

Thank you qwango! I tried that in my home network and it did the trick. Weird but awesome. I'll try it tomorrow at work where we use a different network and different email system. I'm hopeful to finally get rid of the usb scanning. Thank you very much for posting!
