Wow, I was getting frustrated that this printer was having such trouble with pulling IP addresses from my DHCP server.

I tried putting a static reservation in my DHCP server as-per normal for all my network infrastructure devices. when that didn't work, I got rid of the reservation, but noticed that the printer never obtained any lease.

I finally just started checking boxes to see if there was a programming error in the serup screens.

My printer was failing to obtain an address from my DHCP server, until after 5 minutes it would auto config an address 169.254.25.22, and then computers would begin to print via the driver, regardless of the IP.  Aparently the driver doesn't need the IP at all to work, only the host name (partial MAC) .

Everything started working normally after i TURNED ON the BOOTP setting in additon to DHCP.

For whatever reason, BOOTP needs to be ENABLED for this printer to get DHCP functionality.

This must be the error that was introduced in the new firmware, maybe they got BootP and DHCP mixed-up?!?

Just turn them both on, and perhaps  it might start working well. It did for me.

Also TIL:  if you wait 5 minutes, your printer will auto configure an IP address ( If you left AutoIP on in the printer config) .

open a command-prompt window on your PC and type ARP -a to see a list of all resolved devices that your PC knows about in your LAN. Find the MAC from your printer listed there and it will probably show an IP of 169.254.x.x dynamic.

Use that info to access the web interface of your printer and reconfigure accordingly.

Yeesh! I always seem to end up with the DUD's of software and firmware glitchy hardware!

my setting looks work fine:

1. Preserve IP addr range for Static IP allocation on your home router.

Config your router to exclude a range of IpAddr for static ip device to use within in your home. That preserved range, as my setting, is:

192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.99. Therefore from 192.168.0.100 to .254 will be for DHCP devices at your home.

2. Disable DHCP on your printer.

Connect you pc with usb cable to your printer. Use the utility provided from HP to config your printer not to use the DHCP. And set your printer use a static IP address from your home network ip addr pool. my setting is 192.168.0.11. This ip is within the preserved pool range as set in step 1. Follow the screen prompt to complete the setup.

If successful, you shall have ip connectivity btw your pc and printer. To validate, type your printer IP addr in your web browser from pc. You should be able to see an printer setting web page. (HP printer will be looks like a web server).

http://192.168.0.11/SSI/index.htm

3. Complete printer driver installation on you pc.

Either from HP web page, or from the printer web page to down load the print drivers. Install this drivers. If successful you shall see your printer icon appears on your PC "device and printer" under path:

Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers

This means your printer's works fine at above IP layer.

For your apple device, you don't need install any driver before you able to use printer. Apple is beat the Microsoft windows.

Here is a problem TWO years old as of 4/2014 - with several HP links - all broken/missing...

I just bought this printer, installed it, got everything working via USB and WiFi,

downloaded/installed WiFi drivers to laptops,

then unplugged it & moved to a central location,

and now of course - IT LOSES IT'S WIFI ABILITY.

THIS IS A BRAND NEW PRINTER OUT OF THE BOX -----> AND FIRMWARE IS BROKEN & NOT WORKING

 How can anyone actually be using this printer for WiFi    ????

Turn on - green light - blue light flashing

Press/hold the "X" button for the Config Sheet - it shows.....

Firmware - 20130213

IP - manual - 192.168.1.7

802.11 -Wireless

Status - enabled

Mode - infrastructure

SSID - linksys160n

Auth - wep

Direct print - OFF

IO Timeout - 120 secs

Jam - off

Sleep after - 15min

Auto off - 1 hr

@weelsed, take a look at this link for possible solutions.

Stop using WEP security on your WiFi, and change it to WPA2.
My problems went away with this printer when I setup a second SSID in my access point using WPA2, just for the printer. Of course I had to completely reconfigure the printer for the new SSID, bit it actually worked!

Tablets need to have extra software for this printer to work.
If you have android then get the HAMMERMILL Print app for free. Its the ONLY one I could find which actually prints web pages without having to copy-paste the URLs to a separate app. It will find your printer easily too thanks to bonjour.

*****
Update your printer to the latest firmware in order for bonjour protocol to be enabled.*****

My P1102w worked fine for a time, but suddenly developed this problem, presumably (as proved by others) after a firmware update.  My router was set to WPA2,  following the advice of a poster, I set it to WPA AES/TKIP.  The printer has worked since, though I've given up a measure of security to have it do so.

This should not stand.  HP needs to fix this by issuing another update or by giving us a way to go back to the previous firmware.  It's been a long long time, and they've done nothing that I've seen.  HP - Are you going to walk away from this problem after apparently creating it?

I get a lot of emails from HP trying to get me to buy their products.  That's not ever going to happen unless I become aware of a good reason why this issue hasn't been addressed in all this time.

I had the same problem with my HP LaserJet Professional P1102w, my WIFI connected printer in Windows went OFFLINE and stopped working.

And no matter what I did, it stayed off line.

I also set up Google Cloud printing and HP ePrint printing via email, and this worked fine. It’s stable but slow because it takes a few minutes before the print comes out. So I don’t like this way of printing.

Here’s a solution for the WIFI problem ! This is what work for me.

Computer and printer should be on the same wireless network (SSID must be the same).

Access point configuration (TP-Link 841N in my case):

IP address 10.0.0.1

subnet mask 255.255.255.224

DHCP = ON

DHCP reservation for the printer: 10.0.0.30

Wireless security set to WPA2 (I also tested with WPA and that worked too, without changing the printer configuration)

Printer IPv4 configuration (firmware 20140916)

I used the WPS bottom on the TP-Link router and didn’t have to change any other settings.

DHCP = ON (checked)

IP address: 10.0.0.30

Gateway = 10.0.0.1

DNS = 10.0.0.1 and 0.0.0.0

WINS = (empty)

BootP = not checked

AutoIP = checked

To set up a printer on your Windows computer (in my case Vista) that works and keeps on working, go to Configuration Panel, Printers, Add a printer (the text is translated from Dutch screens, so could be slightly different)

Choose: Network printer, wireless printer or Bluetooth-printer

Choose: The printer is not in the list

Choose: add a printer with TCP/IP address (the option that is checked)

In the next screen choose: Device type: TCP/IP device, Hostname or IP-address: 10.0.0.30 Port name is added by itself (10.0.0.30_1). Leave the option checked for selection of the printer driver.

In the next screen choose: Device type: Custom. And choose settings, choose LPR protocol. Give a random name for the queue. Leave the other boxes unchecked.

In the next screen: choose HP, and HP LaserJet Professional P 1102w, next, next

Then give the printer a name, and print out a test page.

The wifi connection doesn’t get lost anymore ! Problem solved !

Another option is to change your current (OFFLINE) printer in Windows: go to properties, Ports, configure ports, and change the setting from RAW to LPR. Choose a random Queue name, uncheck SNMP (I don’t use fax options).
