I am having the same problem as the original poster.  I tried deleting my windows\temp folder but I still can't get the computer to communicate with the printer.

I have uninstalled everything numerous times, have followed the instructions, etc. but nothing works.  It's like my printer just turned into a big brick.

The wireless light on the printer keeps flashing if that helps with a diagnosis.  Someone please help because I'm close to throwing this stupid printer down the stairs.

This means you and not connected to your wireless router.  Not really the same issue.  You need to input the correct SSID and password and connect to your wireless router.  The light should be on steady once connected.

OK, so how do I go about connecting to the wireless router with my printer?  When I put in the install CD and choose wireless network it never gives a chance to find the SSID and enter the password.

I get something such as 'Product has been connected successfully' when I hook it up via the USB cable. Then it goes through the install portion of the process, goes to 15% and hangs there until a message saying 'Unable to communicate with product' comes up.

While it's hung up at 15% I see the driver setup program start and run, then goes away with no feedback.

Well I'm a little confused on what step you are at in the manual.  Please let me know what page and step you are at so I can check on it.  Thanks.

I am on section 7 "Installation for Windows".

1.  Connect a USB cable to the computer and product.  DONE

2.  Follow the onscreen instructions.  Remove the USB cable, only if instructed.  DONE

The HP Smart Install program might take a few minutes to start.  Yes it did, but it did start.  No problem.

When the main installation program started it has the following steps on the left side bar:

Prepare to install - CHECKED

Connect the Product - CHECKED

Install - Has an arrow pointing toward the word "Install" and this is where the process hangs at 15%.

Eventually it gives up and says "Unable to communicate with product"

Please ensure that your PC and product are connected via the USB cable and that the product is turned on and ready.

This happens every. single. time.

I finally got it sorted.  First I found an old ethernet cable laying around and used the "wired" connection in the setup process.  When it found my printer I made sure to jot down the IP address.

Once the software finished installing I put the IP address in the browser address bar and got the printer's "webpage".  I clicked on the Networking tab and went to Wireless Configuration from the choices on the left menu bar.

My home wireless connection showed up in the list of network names so I figred I was home free when I selected it and put the password in at the bottom.  Wrong.

Even though the network shows up in the list, it would not take until I manually entered the SSID in the text box below the list of available networks.  That is not intuitive at all so it was just blind luck that I got it to work.

I don't think it should be this complicated to swap out a router and get your printer back up and running.

Glad it's working for you.

I am having the same problem. Deleting Windows/Temp folder did not solve my problem. I tried unistalling using original CD. It did not solve the problem.

I tried setting up the wifi from "Wireless Direct" and it works only for a few minutes and on one of my two laptops. I would then be able to access the web browser settings using the IP Address that the printer is assigned, but only one of my two laptops. After a few minutes, it stops working on that laptop too and I cannot use wifi printing from any device. I have tried using both Automatic and Manual IP selection. Same result both ways.

Meanwhile "Wireless Direct" printing still works. But I want to be able to print while connect to my WiFi Network.

Ive tried all different installation methods including CD and downloading the latest driver. I updated the firmware and that did not help either.

I do not know what else I can do.

I also had the same problem, but RayRay's post put me on the right track, but I went about it a little differently. I connected the printer directly to the router (Comcast/XFinity) with Ethernet cable. Next, under Windows 7, I went to "Start", then to "Computer", "Network". The hard-wired printer was listed as a device. I clicked on the printer icon which opened the HP setup page. From there you can go to "Networking" tab then "Wireless Configuration". From there you can select the proper ssid and then press the "Apply" at the bottom of the page. Finally, I disconnected the Ethernet cable and the wireless printer was recognized.

Hope this helps.

Clearly, the HP Installer software does not work correctly for this printer.

OMG thak you so much Sfoltz for posting this I have battled with this problem for almost a week after changing to a new modem/router from my provider.

People like you keep the rest of us sane!

Having exactly the same issue, tried everything mentioned on this post.

The installation gets stuck at 15% like others users said..

-Firewall and router wireless security disabled and didnt work.

-Temp files deleted

-My printers ethernet port stoped working a few days ago (there´s no green light anymore, already change cable AND router) so I´m not able to even connect wired, and possibly get the printer´s IP adress to configure on EWS.. going crazy right now  with this issue.

Might be a physical problem.. (memory card..)?

Do you guys know anything else to try..?

Thanks in advance
