HP Laserjet 1536 DNF MFP
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I used the upgrade which was sent by microsoft to upgrade from windows 7 to 10. Everything is working fine exept the scan function of my printer.

If I use the HP Support assistant it recognizes the printer, but when I use HP Scan (from the programlist) I get an error message saying the scanner cannot be reached. Also the scan and faxsoftware within windows says that the scanner cannot be reached.

The printfunction is working properly.

I'm truly diappointed since this is the third time over years that I upgrade my windows product and I have issues with my HP hardware. (Which is not realy the hardware but always the software from HP which is not supported or so).

Hope you have an answer for me.

With kind regards,

Martijn

Hi @Smarty-007,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

I see that your HP Laserjet 1536 DNF MFP Scan function does not work after an upgrade to Windows 10. And, I am happy to help!

To verify the printer's hardware is functional, what happens when you try to make a copy using the printer's scanner glass?

In the meantime, please try our HP Print and Scan Doctor, and let me know the results!

Thank you for posting, and hope to hear from you soon! :generic:

Hi There,

Thanks for the reply.

To answer your question regarding the copy function, this works just fine. It seems to be a software issue I guess because printing from any application is also working just fine.

If I use the print & Scan doctor, it starts looking for my machine, finds it, but then says not being able to communicate with it. This is strange.

So if you have any tips?

Hi Smarty-007,

Thank you for your response!

I am glad that you are able to make copies with the printer, and can scan. This shows that the printer's hardware functionality is working.

Since their appears to be a communication issue between the printer and the computer. I would recommend to go through this guide, 'Printer is offline' and Does Not Print (Windows 😎. (These steps will also work on Windows 10.)

Hope this helps! :generic:

OK, Lets try this again.

the printer is working fine. If i for example order a print job from word, or excel this works just fine. If I want to make a copy from lets say an A4 I put it on the glass and push the button "copy", this also works just fine.

if I want to scan something, I go to start, choose applications and lookup the software HP Scan, which always worked fine in the windows 7 situation. In the old situation the scan application opened and I could make a scan.

Now this does not work. When I start the application it says that there is no scanner found.

strange in my opinion because to make a copy, is should scan first.... Don't you agree?

So the hardware is working just fine, it is the software package that does not work. Does HP test this, or does HP tell me that the hardware is not compatible to windows 10 as they did before with windows 95, and then later with windows XP. (off course with different devices)

thanks again.

Hi Smarty-007,

Thank you for your reply!

According to this guide, Windows 10 Compatible Printers. It states only the PCL 6 driver download is available. However, when I go to this printer's official software and drivers downloads, I do see the full feature software and drivers available for Windows 10. So, to verify that this is an issue with the HP software, I would like you to try scanning without HP software. Scan Without HP Software (Windows 10). If you are able to scan without HP software, then I would try the following steps:

Hope this clears things up for you, and have a nice day! :generic:
