I've had this Officejet 8600 about a year with no problems whatsoever. I scanned a document to computer earlier this week and when the scan finished, I received the message "unable to send or receive faxes." I've been all over the forum, tried everything on the "Cannot send and receive faxes" page. My connections are all good, I'm using a two-wire phone cord. Just out of the blue, it quit. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Hello aimtheflame,
Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're receiving a message stating "Unable to send and receive faxes" using the Officejet 8600 Plus. I will do my best to assist you! Just to clarify, are you able to scan or copy a document successfully?
If so, then I need to find out what type of added features do you have on this fax phone line? Did you change anything recently on this line? I would suggest following this entire HP document on Cannot Send or Receive Faxes. Try running a fax test report to verify if anything fails.
Also, try turning off error correction mode on your printer:
1. Press the Right arrow, then press setup (Wrench)
2. Press Fax menu, press advanced fax setup
3. Press error correction mode to off
Please post your results, as I will be looking forward to hearing from you. Have a great night!

Thanks for your reply. I've already done everything on the "cannot send or receive faxes" page and also turned off the error correction mode. When I try to run a fax test report, it comes back with the same message "unable to send and receive faxes." Nothing has changed in my setup. As I said, I scanned a document on Tuesday, and when it was finished was the first time the message came up, completely out of the blue. Until that time, I was able to send and receive faxes. It's a refurbished machine and out of warranty. If there's a part that needs to be replace, I'm fully capable of doing it myself, I just need to know what it is. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi
Any ideas please. Fax was working perfectly but on a return from vacation it no longer works and the error message "Unable to send or receive faxes" shows. I have tried rebooting and setting up again, swopped to another telephone line but nothing makes any difference. All other features of the printer seem OK.
Thanks

Thank you for your response.
The only other suggestion I can recommend is going into the Embedded Web sever and making sure the fax isn't disable. Please follow these steps:
1) Go to the Embedded Web sever. Please follow this HP document on Accessing the HP Embedded Web Server.
2) Very top click on settings, then click Administrator settings.
3) Make sure the fax is not disabled.
If this doesn't work, then please contact HP technical support for further assistance. Click here to find out: HP Worldwide Contact.
Good luck.

Thanks for trying but it did not work. I have been in touch with HP in the UK and been told that the fault is not repairable and I am having to purchase a new printer. Very disappoining as the machine is only 14 months old. If I did not already have a store of ink cartridges I think I would buy another make of printer. I hope the message that I am very disappointed in HP gets to the right level of management.
