I've been trying to setup my new HP OfficeJet 8600. But it keeps looping the ink cartridge animation over and over and over and over. I have inserted and reinserted the ink cartridges several times. I've even removed and reinserted the ink carrying mechanism, but no luck. I have gotten no error message, just the non-stop looping of the animated video introduction on how to insert the ink cartridges.
Is there a way to get past this so I can finalize the setup up? Or do I need to pack it back up and return it to the store?

Here is the Easy Solution:
Go to the printer, open the door (Ink Cartdrige), you can see a white latch at far behind.
1. Pull it UP the white latch.
2. Now take out the Catridge box and put it back again. Remember to pull it down the white latch to original position.
Happy Printing.

Returned first HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus to store due to faulty print head and left setup cartridges there. When I try to setup the new 8600 using Hp standard cartridges the printer gives me error message: "Use the setup cartridges that came with your printer for initialization". I tried the action suggested in another response for the 8600 of pulling the white lever up, pulling the cartridge canister out and putting it back ...... END RESULT the printer displays the Hp logo and sits there.

The white lever trick worked OK for me, but on the second attempt.
First attempt: Printer switched on, removed the cartridge block and replaced it. No change.
Second attempt: Printer switched off, removed the cartridge block and removed the individual cartridges. Replaced the block, replaced the individual cartridges, then switched printer on. Worked a treat!

Was also stuck in a loop with the ink cartridge screen. Thank you so much. Brilliant solution - the white lever trick worked for me.
With printer on, I flicked the lever, removed the cartridge block and then removed the individual cartridges. Switched off printer - replaced the block, reset the lever, replaced the individual cartridges, then switched printer back on.
Screen then acknowledged genuine hp cartridges had been installed, and all was straightforward from that point.
Thanks again for solution

Hi quietstrm98,
I understand that you are getting and error message about “use setup ink”. With your printer setup cartridges are required to initialize the printer, I have included a document <here>.

We got a number of HP8600 donated to us (Welfare organisation) and one printer's set-up cartridges was not in the box as we have reived them. How do I get passed the "Use Setup cartridges"? I tried the white lever tip, no success. Once you switch off the printer the carriage returns to the right and one does not have access to take out or replace the holder and cartridges.
