Thanks for the suggestion!! I spent hours trying to fix the error issue that said my brand new cartridges were damaged or missing. I eventually pulled the whole cartridge assembly apart and used alcohol wipes and a Q-tip. Worked wonders and now works. Thanks again!!!!

I have never used my HP Officejet 6500. Twice now I have tried to get the cartridges to work. Thinking the ink dried, I purchased new ones. I spent $89 since I bought the printer and it's never worked. I get the message, "Cartridge Missing". What can be done?

Hi Aimzee
I understand you are getting the message that the cartridge is missing.
Here is a url on cartridge missing error.

I would also recommend this url for cleaning the printhead.

How long have you owned the printer?

Thank you, I'll check out the links. I bought the printer on line from HP. Big mistake. Never buy items like this on line. I had no one to install it, so I waited. Now, I have a major project and a printer that has never been used. I was so hopeful. Now I have spent well over $200 and my project won't be completed.

Tried all the solutions. None worked IT friend said I might need a software update but don't see that option. Not happy with my printer. goes throught ink at an amazing rate. Was working fine and then got the ink carttrage error message. replaced cartrages with new ones. Didn't work. Went them all the cleaning steps still didn't work, Will have to find a better printer. Sorry.

I purchased new printer cartridges and replaced all of them and after the initial review of how to replace the cartridge and then lifting the printer arm, I found that I needed to clean the printerhead case - which I did (Now I don't get that error message). Now after removing, replacing, removing, replacing the yellow cartridge, I am still getting the error message that the Ink cartridge is missing or damaged (its brand new). I have shut down the printer as well as hard reset by unplugging from the wall and back of printer. Any suggestions? These are brand new cartridges and the only one (so far) giving me the issue is the yellow as it was the first one I replaced.
