I replaced my yellow ink catridge before it indicated me to. Now it is giving me an error message that it appears to be damaged or missing. I even bought a new one and replaced it and the error message will still not go away. How can I fix it? It is a brand new cartridge and it is making my entire printer not work. HELP!!!

Thanks for the suggestion!! I spent hours trying to fix the error issue that said my brand new cartridges were damaged or missing. I eventually  pulled the whole cartridge assembly apart and used alcohol wipes and a Q-tip. Worked wonders and now works. Thanks again!!!!

Hi Ciara_B. Read your response to this problem and clicked on the link you listed. Just bought three new color cartridges but I still get the error message re/ the yellow one. What are the service/repair options; its a HP Officejet 6500 and recently out of warranty. I'm in the the S. Miami area and don't know where to begin. (My printer has the cleanest contacts in existence lol!)

Hi Kalash49

So you've replaced the yellow and still see the message? And you've checked the cartridge is seated properly?

There is more detail on the out of warranty options for US customer in the link below

Please let me know how you get on

Thanks, Ciara

Thanks for the quick response. Tried one last thing and it worked. Lifted the grey lever on the device that houses the ink cartridges, lifted that assembly out, cartridges and all. Then I cleaned all the business end of the assembly and the array of contacts both on the assembly and the mating contacts in the machine, reassembled it and it worked. You may wish to pass this information on to others. Thanks again for your help.

I replaced the balck ink cartridge on my printer with a new one as directed.  Now I'm getting a "missing or damaged cartridge" message and it has shut down my printer.  I repeated the process with a new black ink cartridge.  Same result.  Please help.

How do I fix it

Hi...this worked for me! I think maybe the printhead was gummed up so paper towels and alcohol wipes on the cartridge caddy contacts and ink cartridge contacts worked like a champ. Thanks for the suggestion.

Ok, so I have tried everyting, even the removal and cleaning of the cartridge caddy, and no luck yet.  The caddy was very inked up, so I was actually hopeful, but no go.  Should I try it again?  Time to toss the printer?  Kills me b/c my last HP printer lasted from '03 and still kicking, but this one started having problems early on and then this!  Help please!
