So I have a HP Officejet 6600 which recently ran out of it's magenta cartridge. I knew I wouldn't be able to print in color, but when I went to the printer and set preferences to print black only it still tells me I need to replace the magenta cartridge before I can resume printing. This is extremely annoying because I start school monday and have syllabi and things I need to print out. Please don't tell me to order or go out and buy a magenta cartridge. I just need to know how to get this specific printer to work using only black ink when the color cartidges are depleted.

Hi,

As an all-in-one device the printer require any of its ink cartridges for maintnace purposes, printing in black ink only is only possible till any of the cartridges has been depleted, then it is essencial to replace the cartridge in order to resume printing even in black ink only.

Once you replace the empty cartridge you may set black printing only to cosume less color ink in the future

It won't print in black and white and HP WILL NOT ANSWER any of these requests because it's their way of stealing you money without really telling you they are.  Imagine that???

it is essential to replace the cartridges for HP's purpose ONLY.  Not ours.     Throwing this piece of crap in the trash and NEVER buying HP again.

I am with you on this Jen11. This is total BS and I will never by another HP product because of this absolute crap.

The HP reply is a joke.  I spent all this money on a printer and I keep running into this problem at the most inopportune times. HP should make an option just to print black and white if you want to. I will NEVER EVER by HP again!!!!! And I will tell everyone I know to do the same!!! It is a farce that you have a printer with plenty of black ink and yet you can't print with it. I feel sorry for the HP employee who has "put on a happy face", spit out the requisite corporate garbage and reply to all these angry customer posts.

I have read a lot of your forums on the HP 6600 and due to the BS about not being able to print black and white text only docs with a depleted color, I will never buy another HP product again. All the negative comments about this makes me angry. All I wanted was a wifi printer that I can print docs from any room in my home/office small bussiness. I bought a complete set of inks at Best but and the colors did not last 2 months in the slowest time of the year for me. I dont want color, dont use color and you folks at HP are basically stealing from the customer by making us not have thee option to gray scale or Black and white only. Poor choices Hp. Bye Bye from a customer that has been loyal for moe than 15 years.

HP Officejet 6600 gives me a message of scanner failure when I try to print a document.  It also says unable to scan, copy or fax.  Thank you, Mrs. Bond

I've also been a loyal HP customer for more than 12 years.  This is the last HP product that I will buy....
