HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911a
macOS 10.12 Sierra

Color printing has begun showing serious horizintal streaks and drop-outs, black still prints okay. Replaced cartridges twice, using HP "genuine" replacements.

Ran through all troubleshooting steps on the web site, including re-installing all software and drivers and multiple head cleanings at the highest level.

Best answer I can find is the printhead is dead? Is there some manual way to clean or investigate this? Replacement cost appears to be close to just buying a new printer. This thing is only three years old.

Any help, advice or suggestions welcome. Thanks in advance.

Hello, Fossette.

To answer the first question: it worked fine until this past week.

Second question: I installed new HP color ink cartridges. Then another fresh set when the problems manifested.

To the rest: please go back and re-read my post. I already answered all of that, and your link goes back to what I said I had already done. I appreciate that folks in your position sometimes use canned responses to save time but your post gives me the impression you have not thoroughly read and understood mine.

Thank you.

Hi,

as @The_Fossette is out if the office, I'm replying to you.

I read that you have already performed the troubleshooting. I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job.

Before we conclude this to be a printhead failure, you may try to clean the printhead manually than using the printer's menu to clean it automatically.

NOTE: use a soft lint-free cloth to clean the printhead. Do not touch the ink nozzles which are at the bottom of the printhead and do not touch the electrical contacts on it.

If the issue persists then you may contact our HP phone support to explore the hardware service options for your HP printer.

I hope this information helps. Please keep me posted for any further questions. Cheers! 🙂
