Jamieson - appreciate your attempts to help out here, but no luck so far.  I've attempted to download and install the firmware upgrade - but it is reported as "Not applicable"  The printer itself reports that it is running the most recent firmware.  It may be that a new version has been released since you wrote the note to jtkjtk in mid-August.

My use scenario - printer is running on a wireless network, it typically freezes mid-page, the control panel reports "now scanning", the HP scan application reports that it is "scanning page xx", the network connection is solid.  My recovery technique has evolved to:  turn the printer off, remove unscanned pages, turn the printer back on, once the printer has booted up I reload the unscanned pages, once the HP scan application reports that network comms have been lost (usually in 5 - 10 seconds), I accept the message, return to the scan app page and click on the "+" button to scan more pages.

Scanning resumes - sometimes I get the entire document scanned, sometimes I don't.  Typically, if I repeat this cycle a few times in a scanning session the freezing will go away long enough to let me scan several 20 - 30 page, duplex documents.

Still frustrating.  Almost to the point of recycling the printer for a non-HP product 😞

Hi Bfuson,

Are you connected via a USB cable or a wireless connection?

If you're connected via a wireless connection, I would recommend attempting a scan while connected with a USB cable.

I have the same issue as everyone else (Scan freezing halfway through).

Connecting the printer through USB instead of ethernet appears to have solved the problem. Of course this works only for the one PC in the household that is next to the printer.

So it is not really a solution.

HP where are you on fixing this???????????????

I've had this problem ever since I bought mt HP officejet pro 8620, it began the day I took it out of the box.  Sometimes I can go for a month or two without a problem; then I have to unplug, reboot, etc evvery 3rd or 4th copy.

However, today I may have found a clue.  I have 2 computers an Imac and a Macbook air.  Both are linked to the printer wirelessly.  The Imac is running the latest OS - Mac OS Sierra 10.12.1.  The dMacbook Air is running the older El Capitan 10.11.6.  When the IMAC froxe, I tried the Macbook Air and it scanned without a problem.   But, given how very, very many paople ar having the problem on many different platforms - it's got to be an HP problm from start to finish.
