Just installed new 8610.  Fax test and copy from doc feeder works fine, but when I scan it will only scan from the glass and won't draw a doc into the feeder on top.  It does draw into the feeder on the copy function.  Any thoughts?

Hey @chakko  ,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!

I would like to assist you today with resolving the automatic document feeder scan issues you're experiencing with your HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer. Now the good news is is that your hardware is fine on your printer because you are able to copy and fax through the automatic document feeder. In this specific case I do think the issue you're experiencing is being caused by a setting conflict under your scan software.

In order for me to provide you with accurate troubleshooting steps for the HP Scan software I will need to know what Operating System you're using on your computer: What's my OS?

Once I find out your Operating System I would be more than happy to assist you with resolving this setting issue. I look forward to hearing from you! 🙂

Hey @Stella93,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!

I understand that you're experiencing a document feeder issue when scanning from your HP Officejet Pro 8610 e-All-in-One Printer to your computer. I would like to assist you today with resolving this issue. However, I do need to clarify a few things before I provide accurate support to resolve this issue.

  • (2) Are you able to Copy from the document feeder on your printer?

If you're able to Copy or Fax from the automatic document feeder, than the issue that you're experiencing is not printer hardware related. Rather, there is likely a setting under the HP Scan software that needs to be adjusted. The software on Mac and Windows Operating Systems is different. Therefore, once I know what Operating System you're using I will be able to guide you to a solution.

I look forward to hearing from you! 🙂

Hey @chakko,

Thanks for getting back to me with your Windows 7 Operating System. I normally get an email notification informing me that you had responded to a thread that we're working on. In this case, I never received any notification. Because of this I am just seeing your response now. With that being said, should you still be experiencing a document feeder issue when scanning I would like to guide you to a solution. Please follow the steps below to check your HP Scan settings.

1. On the desktop of your computer click on the HP Officejet 8610 Printer Assistant icon. It should look similar this:

2. When the HP Printer Assistant opens please select Scan a Document or Photo. HP Scan will now open.

3. Under HP Scan please choose the appropriate scan option on the left. On the right, locate the Source section. If this is set to Flatbed, please change this to Document Feeder. You may have the option for Use Document Feeder if Loaded. Please ensure that your paper is loaded in the automatic document feeder before you hit Scan on the bottom left. Your printer display should indicate 'Document Loaded' or 'Original Loaded'.

You printer should now feed the pages to scan from the automatic document feeder.

Please let me know if the steps I've provided resolve your document feeder scan issue. Best of luck! 🙂

Hello @3520hillcrest,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!

I understand that you're not able to scan from the document feeder on your HP Officejet Pro 8610 e-All-in-One Printer. I would like to assist you today with resolving this issue.

  • Just to clarify, are you currently able to Copy from the document feeder?

If you're not sure, can I please have you load 1 piece of blank paper in the document feeder on your HP Officejet. Once you hear the chime that paper has been loaded, or see the message on the front panel display 'document loaded', or 'Original loaded', can you please select the Copy button on the front panel of your printer. Next, choose Black Copy. Your machine should now feed the blank piece of paper through the document feeder mechanism and print a blank copy out. This way we can test the standalone hardware of your document feeder, and not waste ink.

Please respond to this post with the result of the Copy test. Once we have isolated this issue to either a hardware issue, or a setting conflict between your printer and Windows 8.1 computer I will be happy to guide you to a solution. I look forward to hearing from you! 🙂

Hi all,

After having been transferred through the "help" app to www.hp.com, I found the supportlink to new software to install.

(observing the relaease date, which was October 2015)
I downloaded the inspection softeware which concluded, that a new update of the software was necessary (you have to indicate your OS first)

After having installed the new software, the ADF worked erfectly for 26 pages immediately

Regards

Rob
