HP Officejet Pro X576dw MFP
Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit)

Hi,

I have an Officejet Pro X576dw MFP printer that just quit printing, just spits out a completely blank page.

It is 2 years old and has worked very well until now.

I am getting a missing or failed printhead error message and code 0xc6fd0413.

Any recommendations?

Thanks,

Don

That is an error message you will be very unlikely to be able to repair yourself.

Printheads is that machine are all on the Printbar, to replace that part you need special tools and a lot of time.

I would recommend that you attempt to contact HP support with your error code either by online chat or on the phone and see if you can get them to at least get the error code without first telling you your machine is out of warranty and saying they can't help, you might start with the error code if you can and then offer to get them the serial number after you're actually talking to a person.

Some models of the machine had problems with a cable failure to the printhead, and there have been cases of out of warranty machines being replaced based on the error code and the exact age of the machine.

A further note on the printbar, in another thread on the forum a person had an HP tech replacing that part in their machine. User of the printer watched the tech for over an hour and then had to leave and the tech was still only part way into the job of replacing the part.

You should also check the price of a new machine online on the HP website, and from other alternate sources like office supply stores and resellers. I have several times found that machine available from HP for half of list price.

Another thought, some people have bought printers and paid with credit cards that double the manufacturer's warranty so depending on whether you're under 2 years or over 2 years your credit card company might pay for replacement or repairs.

SHThompson,

Thank you for your reply.

It is my wife's printer and she had already talked to someone in HP tech support and they said it was out of warranty as it is a little over 2 years old now.

I will call them tomorrow and see if they say the same thing to me.

Any recommendations on a replacement that might be more reliable?

Thanks,

Don

I'll try to remember to check service notes on Monday the one I remember only extended the original warranty by 1 years and hers is over 2 years old so we might be out of luck.

If I don't put a follow up post on the forum on Monday or send you a message you might want to just send me a private message to remind me.

Do you have any idea how many pages your wife had printed with that machine? You might be able to look at the embedded Web server and check.

I'm curious about the number of pages because that would say something about the reliability, and if the number was really low that might be something you could mention to HP.
