HP PageWide Pro 577dw
Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

Our ancient Win XP box prints two-sided without issue to our new HP PageWide Pro 577dw, but none of our (much more modern) Macs will.

The XP box has an additonal driver interface when printing, the Mac does not. That said, there are two-sided options in the OS native dialogs and they are enabled. Help, please.

All Macs are running El Capitan 10.11.6 and the driver version reported is 19.16.

(Also: HP Support is a zoo. This website is a convulted mess and I spent 45 minutes in a chat with a support agent to no avail.)

Hi,
Please follow the steps below in order to automatically print two-sided print jobs:

From the file used to print click the File menu and select Print.
NOTE: The Print window might be minimized. Press on Show Details to show any available print option.

In the expanded Print window you will find next to Copies the checkbox for Two-Sided. Check the box.
NOTE: If the checkbox does not appear within the specific application print dialog, skip this step.

To select the binding type click the lowest selection box listed as the name of the program (e.g. TextEdit)
Will appear as Copies & Pages within Microsoft Office applications.

Select Layout from the drop-down menu.

Set the Two-Sided option as Long-Edge binding (Portrait), or Short-Edge binding (landscape).

You may save the settings for future use by clicking Presets > Save Current Settings as Preset... Any used preset will remain default till another preset will be used.

Regards,
Shlomi

Thanks, Shlomi, but even with all of that selected, our Macs are still only printed one-sided.

Incidentally, AirPrint from iOS manages to successfully print two-sided.

*Be aware that resetting the printer system will remove any existing print queue and reset any customized driver settings.

Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences .
Select Printers & Scanners.
Right-click (or Ctrl + click) your product in the Printers list in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system .
Click OK to confirm the reset.
Type your user Name and Password .
Click OK . The printing system resets.

Now click the plus sign and re-add the printer, within the Use drop down menu select the printer model.

If the same persists, what application you are printing from?

May you see any difference once printing from another program such as TextEdit?

I'd much prefer NOT to reset the printing system, as it would devistate my InDesign workflow.

BTW, I can print two-sided if I switch to the AirPrint driver.  This certainly seems to be an HP driver issue. Can anyone cofirm that they *ARE* in fact able to print two-sided with the HP driver?

I will test it once once able to access the printer on the next week, will let you know the results from my end.

Any updates here? I'm still unable to print two sided using the Mac driver.
