That should be the LEFT side looking from the FRONT, with the Control Panel readable; and the Paper Feed etc towards you.

Only 3 Black Screws need to be removed, at the left, when the whole top is opened (as for ink catridge replacement).

None of the plated/silvery screws need to be removed.

Be wary of the very small tabsalong the top of the main left-side panel, particularly when re-assembling.

With that left-side panel off, various working parts are revealed, particularly the circular calibration film measuring the paper feed when printing.

At the back, towards the hinge line, there are two ribbon cables, the nearer one is white, the further one is grey/black, ie dark.

These are simple ribbon cables without conventional plugs, so should be handled with care, particularly when inserting.

On each, there are lines to which line up with their respective socket tops, about to disappear, when inserted correctly.

About the middle of that left side, there is another white ribbon cable, with a reinforcement on it.

Again the insertion depth is shown by a line.

Near that third ribbon cable are three simpler plug/socket combinations with distinct wires, which are probably power supplies.

I have tried that tip of removing the two white ribbon cables etc - BUT unfortunately it did not work.

I also tried removing the the combined Print Head/Catridge Carrier, giving it a thorough clean in cold water; and also sucking throught the actual printing nozzles, two "bars" on its normally hidden side.

The amount of ink residue was amazing, it taking me about 30 minutes to get it almost clean.

The HP Instructions refer to the "power cord", although it is inclusive of the mains adaptor, so the mains plug end for the wall socket also needs removing or the power wall sovket switched OFF, to allow the capacitors in that adaptor to discharge.

You'll get some idea of how long this takes, by the length of time that the LED remains glowing!

Agreed with comments about HPs instructions to send Test Prints, Cleaning cycles etc, to a faulty printer!

I have finally given up trying to fix this, having tried everything suggested.

Very poor performance by HP.

I shall have to ditch this printer after investing in 4 XL grade ink cartidges too.

HP needs to find a resoltion for this problem.
