I bought a new black cartridge today and when I installed it, I got an error message saying "Incompatible Print Cartridge". It said to refer to the status screen on the computer, but there isn't one. I put the old cartridge back in and I don't have any problem except there's no ink to print. I installed the new one numerous times, reset the printer, cleaned the contacts, tried some troubleshooting and I even downloaded the updated driver. Nothing has worked. Do I just take the cartridge back to where I bought it or is there something else I can try?

Thank you for your reply.
I had already read and followed everything on the document you provided. I was able to go to the retailer I bought it from and exchange it. I made sure the new cartridge did not have the same dates as the first one. I installed it and it worked fine.
Again, thank you for taking the time to reply.
