When people call the landline it rings as if a FAX is coming through.  The printer shows the FAX picks up at 2 rings with auto answer.  I set the landline at 4 rings. When I tried to go to preferences on the printer, I changed it to pick up FAX after 4 rings., yet it keeps defaulting back to 2 rings and auto answer. What do I need to do to change this. Thanks.

@mommateeh,

Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you.

I understand that you are facing issues with your HP OfficeJet 5740 e-All-in-One Printer wherein the phone calls are answered by fax machine.

This issue could occur if the number of rings on the printer are less than the number of rings on the phone.

Let's go through a few steps to resolve this issue.

You need to set the rings to answer on the phone to 2 or 3 rings and the rings to answer on the printer to 5 or 6 rings.

  1. From the home screen on the printer control panel, swipe the display to the left, and then touch Setup ().

  2. Swipe up on the display, touch Fax Setup, and then touch Preferences.

  3. Swipe up on the display, and then touch Rings to Answer.

  4. Touch the desired number of rings, and then touch Done.

And here's the step by step guide for you in the link:  Sending and Receiving Faxes

Let me know how this works.

You have a good day ahead.
