I saw that someone responded to this in late June 2014 so I thought I would throw in a simpler fix. I simply replaced the hpotiop5.dll file located in C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\ with the one from C:\Users\myname\AppData\Local\Temp\7zS3E7F\drivers\scanner\x32. The file was already put there by the HP install but was not being used! File version says  130.0.95.0 product version 130.000.999.000 size 944 kb date 7/8/2009 5:51 AM. The date on it was older than the one that was there but it works! Be sure and get the 32 bit one because the rest of the install was 32 bit. I was running a C8180 which as everyone said, worked fine on 32 bit Win 7 but when I got a new PC with 64 bit it flopped. I like the printer and didn't want to get rid of it. Hope the fix works for you.

*Edited* The file that was there was dated 9/20/2009 so it was newer but I could not find another copy of it on the hard drive. I'm thinking it was put there by Windows update. The unidrv driver for the C8180 was installed by the "add printer" wizard. I didn't attempt scanning so don't know if it could have worked. I expect when I ran the HP install program it did not overwrite the file since it was newer.
