I'm having the same problem as those voiced by others. Any help you can produce on your end will be greatly appreciated. Really like this Smart Print program.

I just wanted to mention now, that it has been confirmed HP Smart Print works on both Google Chrome and Firefox so that is why it was mentioned in this thread as well.   I have experienced Smart Print actually freezing up my internet in IE10, I have seen the gray window that is pretty much useless and I have been just as frustrated after two weeks of working on this, so just know not only do I understand but I am more than happy to help.  Just please be patient now while I work on what I have "enabled" that you do not on a case-by-case basis.

It has been rather difficult managing three different forums with the same title, so I redirected a few over here so I can keep everyone's individual issues together.  This is my step-by-step break-down on what I did to get it to work for me.  I copy/pasted this from a forum titled "HP Smart Print v2.1 and IE10." Hopefully this will help you.

"I got it!  It works perfectly now.  I have never used this before.  It is pretty nifty!  And here is how I did it: I went to the gear-looking thing in the upper right hand corner of IE-10 and clicked Manage Add-ons.   When I searched for search providers I did not see Bing bar in there.  At the bottom I see "Find more toolbars and extension."  It opened a page called IE Pin It and on the left I selected "Search." I found the Bing Pin Site where I had to drag the Bing icon to the bottom of my screen or as it called it, my task bar.  When I did that, IE closed.  I ended up right-clicking on the Bing icon on my task bar and unpinned it later and Smart Print still worked.

When it opened back up, my older version of Smart Print did not work.  So I uninstalled it and found this page --HP Smart Print Getting Started-- which I found at eprintcenter.com/news.  It still didn't work right away, however.  After clicking on the Smart Print icon, a little banner displayed at the bottom "Internet Explorer restricted this webpage from running scripts or ActiveX controls." When I clicked "Allow blocked content" again, nothing happened.  Had I waited seconds longer I would have seen the banner change and say "Only secure content is displayed."  After I selected "Show all content" everything worked!

I found other information that stated this may work in Firefox but I did not try that.  I did find a way to add it as an extension to Google Chrome by selecting the file option in the upper right-hand corner>>Tools>>Extensions and then searched HP Smart Print and there it was!  Looks like it was added just last month.  I have the icon on Google Chrome now too but it only seemed to work on certain web pages - but, hey, it works!"

Have you read my post on the other thread?  I found that Smart Print will work on secure sites(https).

Oh sorry Frank.  I saw that but I must admit I didn't fully understand.  It makes sense now.  The security risk banner I would get were on sites like Google (unsecured) and now I know why.  That is a step in the right direction for you I hope.  If only it worked every time but that is still very valuable information.  Thank you for mentioning that!

Frank, I tried it on a https site and the button control panel showed up at top center.  After I clicked on the HP Smart Print icon from the toolbar above, a page opened with a small amount of print on it and it had the "x" banner to work with to clear off what I didn't want.  Also the two "banners" re active X & then content appeared even though I do have the active x enabled.  Since there was nothing I wanted to remove because there was the small amount of print only, I printed that and ended up with all of the web page getting printed along with the added rectangular "boxes" in two places over the printing on the page, just like before. So, what am I doing wrong that it did not work for me as it does for you???!!!  This is maddening!!!

Well I followed the directions exactly with little hope that it would work because of all else that I have tried.  Went to the Bing site, dragged bing to my task bar, went to the '"getting started with smart print" site and downloaded smart print for the umteenth time and installed it.  No message about active X content on the http site I was on.  Clicked the smart print icon and nothing but that window without the control panel.

I did try going to a https site and I did get the active X popup and did get the window to open with the print control panel but like Mave, I got the same results, double printing over the original webpage.

I played around with IE security settings since it "worked" on a secure site and nothing seemed to help.

Does anyone know how to get in touch with HP on this issue.  I spent lots of time on their website going in circles looking for an email address to send this issue to.  But since this is freeware I guess they don't care.

I think in the morning I will post this issue on the Microsoft IT forum and see if any of the braines over there know anything.

I'm beginnig to think that this is nothing more than a software incompatibility issue and until HP does something about it we are out of luck.  Remember, HP had to do away with smart web printing because it would not work with later versions of IE and gave us "smart print" for IE 8 & 9.

I can see you all are really struggling here and now that I was able to get it to work I can not get it to not work.  I do not know of a support channel to call into but I have access to people that should have more information about the software itself.  I have documented all of your questions, concerns, and hang-ups with the software. If you find any information on another forum such as adjustments that worked for you, it would be greatly appreciated here.  Please be patient with me while I find the exact setting that I have that you do not.

VisionAiry, maybe we ought to check what your OS is and what version of IE 10 you have and see if we match.

My OS is Windows 7 professional 64bit and the IE 10 version is 10.9200.16521

If you have it working and I and other can not get it working there must be a reason, right????

I agree.  I believe the one thing you all are not seeing is the ActiveX plug-in banner I see.  That for me was the key.  When I had the blank screen that did not respond, that banner was at the bottom.  If I "enabled blocked content," nothing happened followed by another banner to "show content."

Version: 10.0.9200.16521
