Hi! @aratna, Welcome to HP forums.

I understand you have issues scanning from your printer.

Don't worry I'd love to help you.

Are you able to make copies from your printer?

Restarting the computer and printer can restore the lost scan connection.
Turn off the printer.
Make sure the printer power cord connects directly to an electrical outlet and not through a surge protector or power strip.
Close all running programs on your computer, and then shut down the computer.
Turn on the printer.
Turn on the computer.
Search Windows for your printer model name, and then click the printer name in the list of results.
If HP Printer Assistant opens, click Scan a Document or Photo or Manage Scan to Computer, and then make sure the checkbox is selected next to Automatically start Scan to Computer when I log onto Windows.
If HP Solution Center opens, click Scan Settings to view scan connection status, settings, and preferences.
If your printer name is not in the results, skip to the step to install the HP software for your printer.
Try to scan.

If the issue still persists uninstall the printer software from root level on your PC and install the latest printer drivers.

1. Navigate to Start >Type Devices and Printers in the Search > Select it from the results

2. Highlight your printer object and Right Click

3. Choose Remove Device

4. Highlight something else from the list

5. Click the Print Server Properties button from the toolbar

6. Select the Drivers Tab

7. Highlight the appropriate print driver

8. Click Remove

9. Check the Remove Driver and Driver Package option when prompted

10. Click OK

Please update the printer software using this link.

I'll watch your reply!

Have a wonderful day ahead! 🙂

Thanks Mr. Robot.

However, the 'Print Server Properties' dialog box does not remove the driver for HP 4640. Here's the screenshot of my  numerous failed attempts , to remove the same as advised.. How do I delete the same from my computer?

@aratna, It's great to hear from you again. I was much awaiting for your response.

I appriciate your efforts for trying out the steps.

Please try the steps recommended below.

1. First remove printer in "Devices and Printers"
2. Then stop the print spooler services.
Turn off the printer using the power button and then unplug the printer power cord from the power outlet.
Save your work. After using these steps, your current print jobs are lost and will need to be printed again.
Open Windows Services using one of the following methods:
Search Windows for services, and click Services in the list of results.
On your keyboard, press Windows key (  ) + R, type services.msc in the window that opens, and then click OK.
Scroll through the list of services and find the name Print Spooler.
Right-click Print Spooler and select Stop.
3. In registry we opened HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environments\Windows x64\Print Processors\
4. Rename all Print Processors that were listed. Like Winprint to Winprint.old, Hpcpp107 to Hpcpp107.old, and so on ...
5. Again start the print spooler services.
6. Remove the driver pack in Print Management MMC.
7. Reopened registry location HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environments\Windows x64\Print Processors\
8. Rename back all Print Processors back to Winprint.old to Winprint, Hpcpp107.old to Hpcpp107, and so on ...
9. Restart the print spooler services.
10. Install the new printer drivers
11. Try printing and check if it helps.

Let me know if this helps!

Have a beautiful weekend ahead! 🙂

Hi,

I tried the steps mentioned above but the problem remains and I am unable to scan with the same error.

This may be because I am unable to complete the 6th step in your previous message, that is, removing the driver pack in print management mmc.  I am not even able to find the print management option upon opening MMC(screenshot attached).  Please have a look and let me know if this may be an issue.

@aratna, It's great to hear from you again. I was much awaiting for your response.

I appreciate your efforts for trying out the steps.

As you mentioned the issue persists even after trying out the steps.

I would suggest please disable the firewall on your PC and try uninstalling the drivers.

Please find the steps to disable the firewall on your PC.

Open the Control Panel
Click on System and Security
Click on Windows Firewall.
If the Windows Firewall is disabled, the Windows Firewall state will be Off. To turn it on, in the left navigation pane, click on Turn Windows Firewall on or off.
In the Customize Settings window, select Turnoff Windows Firewall and click OK.

If you are still unable to uninstall the driver's on your PC download and install Revo uninstaller and try uninstalling the drivers.

Let me know how it goes!

Have a great day ahead! 🙂
