Currently I am able to print, copy but not scan.

Scan has worked in the past.

Currently printer display says "phone off hook" when first turned on.

Prints OK but when I try to scan, printer display says "No Scan Options".

I have download a driver for my HP Pavillion Windows 8.1 (64bit) OS but no change.

When both PC & printer were under warranty, HP advised me that the PC and printer were on differemt networks.

They helped me resolve this difference - I have no idea what caused the difference.

Both PC and printer are now out of warranty so HP is of little help.

I believe I am connected as "Wireless" and have never attempted to use or include FAX option.

I have spent hours and hours in this past but resolved this with HP help.

Hours spent today unistalling printer, adding printer, downloading driver have changed nothing.

I can still print and copy but not scan.

Help!

Hi piphpstuff,

I understand you have an Officejet 4500 that is saying No Scan Options when you try to scan from the front panel of the printer. I'm sorry to hear this has been happening, but I will do my best to assist you!

Since you're not able to scan from the front panel of the printer, have you tried scanning from the HP Solution Center on your computer? If you have the full feature software installed, you should have it on your desktop. You can also download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor and see what it says as well.

Hope this helps, let me know how things go!!

HP Solutuon Center says "cannot run because your device installiation is not complete" so your suggestion to print from here is not available.

HP Printer Center indicates "printer found" and "installed".

Whe I try to print,  I get a reply that the npronnter is "offline".

Still not printing or scanning.

A new problem started this morning:

When the printer is turned on, it now makes a loud and terrible noise while starting and the print head tracks back and worth.  The print head has always banged around while warming up but now the movement is much more violent and louder when thrashing around.

Frustration continues to mount!

Hi piphpstuff,

Thank you for the reply! I'm sorry to hear that didn't help, but we can try a few more things.

For the software end of things, I'd suggest that you print a Network Configuration page:

  1. Press the Setup button ( ) on the printer control panel.
  2. Press the Arrow buttons ( ) to select Print Report , and then press OK .
  3. Press the Arrow buttons ( ) to select Network Config , and then press OK . The Network Configuration Page prints.

If that is not showing any problems, and it's showing the printer is on the right network, then it sounds like things didn't get installed properly. I'd suggest performing a Level 3 Uninstall and then use the HP Printer Install Wizard to get the software reinstalled, as it can often fix many installation issues.

For the sound coming from the printer, you can have a look through this Paper Jam document, to see what could be causing that gear to make noises.

Let me know how this goes!

Hi Miss TerriLynn

I completed the "TOOLS" etc and the report printed looked good until I saw the IP address on the report.

192.168.1.129 shows on the printed report.

192.168.1.129 shows up on my HP Printer Control with a GREEN radial and as "Not Installed"

and

192.168.1.108 shows up on my HP Printer Control with a GREEN radial appears to be installed.

I suspect this may be the problem as Imy PC seems to be looking for my printer in "All the wrong places".

How do I get my HP PC MS windows8 to  point to the 192.168.1.129 IP address instead of 192.168.1.108?

Thank you in advance for your prompt and courteous replies.

Jerry

Hi piphpstuff,

Thank you for the reply!

At this point, I feel it would be best to remove just the drivers from your computer and re-add the driver. This should allow the computer to look for the right IP address and give you your scanning capabilities back.

To remove just the driver, go to your Start Screen and start typing Devices and Printers, and then open the Devices and Printers folder. In there you should see at least one, most likely 2 Officejet 4500's. I would like you to right click each and go to Remove Device. Once both are removed download the software from HP's site (select the Officejet 4500 you have, click Drivers, the blue Next button and then download the option under Driver - Product Installation Software) and then run the software. It should come up with an option to Add a Device and that is the option you want to choose.

This way just the one IP address will be associated with the software and your scanning should be functioning again!

Ok that kind of worked as I now am able to print once again.

Still not able to scan as the printer screen displays "no scan options".

This was my original issue.

I appreciate your help but I think I am going to look for a different all-in-one printer.

Gratefully,

Jerry

This is the exact same problem I have so rather than post a new question w/the same issues I'm jumping on this one.

Printer:  Photosmart C8100 all-in-one

OS:  Windows 7 64bit

Connected via ethernet to router

Network Map indicates printer is part of network

Printer prints fine from all devices on network but will not scan.

Printer screen: "No Scan Options. Refer to device documentation to trubleshoot"

HP solution center is on desktop but says "HP solution center cannot run because your installation is not complete"

Perhaps this will help:  Printers data port slots don't work either, at least the SD slot that I'd like to use to print photos directly from my camera's SD card.  Perhaps this is related to the same driver?

This is a 6 color printer that produces near pro quality photo prints so I don't want to get a new one.  I need to be able to scan and use the built in data ports so I'd really appreciate a solution to this.  Thank  you

Hi C8100,

I see you actually solved your own issue on another thread I was working on.

For anyone with this same issue, please click here to see how C8100 solved the issue.

Have a good one!
