I removed some paper as it was jammed out of the printer and managed to remove it all.

Then a message came up "carriage Jam" clear carriage jam on the printer.

I followed all the recommendations on the help page to clear the carriage jam like turning it on and off to reset , clearing paper if it is jammed, checking the ink cartridges are in properly and they move freely, checking the paper loader is attached correctly and the cartridge access door is closed properly.Nothing worked. The warning is still on the macihnes screen

All seems well except when i press "continue" to clear the carriage jam ,the ink cartridges move freely but when they go to the left end there is a  noticeable thud twice as if the ink cartriges are moving too far to the left.

What do i do?

Hello carolinspain,

Welcome to the HP Forums.

I see that you are having an issue with a Carriage Jam error on the printer.

I do have a few steps that I would like to go through with you.

First off, please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.

When the printer is back on, please open the top lid so that the carriage will move.  Once the carriage has moved as far as it is going to go, pull the power cable from the back of the unit.  DO not close the top lid before pulling the cable.  We want the carriage to stay where it is so that we can inspect the travel bar for any bits of ink soaked paper.  If you see any, remove it carefully as not to rip it and leave any behind.

Once you have completed the inspection, reconnect the power cable and close the lid.  If you still have the error message , click on the following link that deals with A 'Carriage Jam' Message Displays for HP Deskjet 3520 e-All-in-One and HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 3520....

Please feel free to write me back if you are still having issues or if you have any other questions.

Cheers,  Smiley Happy

A power failure occured as I was in the process of replacing a cartridge. On attempting to switch on again the above message appears which I am unable to overcome by pressing OK. Switching off in the normal way with the power switch in the hope of resetting the printer does not change anything. How can one clear a carriage jam? Can anyone help please.

Thank you for your reply to my earlier query. Unfortunately I had no luck after several attempts. Have you any further suggestions please.
