This morning I set a password on a HP Photosmart 5520 using my iphone. But the password I used did not work again. It was copied to the clipboard so I am fairly sure it was the correct password. Can you please advise how I do a factory reset to get back into the settings.

Many Thanks

Just to confirm. I tried to set an admin password via the security settings after going into the printer settings via the ip address of the printer. Fortunately I can still print but would like to gain access to edit other settings when needed.

Thanks in advance for any help that can be provided.

Hi tenthatom,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums! 🙂 I see you were trying to set up some security with the printer in the Embedded Web Server (EWS) with your iPhone and for some reason it would not accept the password you created.  I would like you to go to the front panel of your Photosmart 5520 and Restore the printer to factory default settings (This will require you to connect it to your wireless network again):

Setup Menu > Tools > Restore Factory Defaults

1) password access requirement is turned OFF

2) username default is ADMIN

3) password is BLANK

On the front panel of your PS 5520 set up the wireless:

Setup Menu Wireless > Wireless Setup Wizard

Once you are connected to your network, print your network configuration page, obtain the IP address and access the EWS. Here you can see all/manage all settings, including resetting the EWS embedded web server password.

I suugest not hiding the SSID, this will create problems in the future.

I hope this helps!

Thanks,

HevnLgh

Hello HevnlghHelP

Thanks for replying

I restored as you suggested the factory default but I am still being asked for a password. I get the message

'Authentication required

The server HTTPS://192.168.1.83:443 requires a user name and password. The server says: admin.'

The username: ADMIN and pasword: BLANK do not work.

Best Regards

Hi @Pakkies,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums! 🙂 I see you are trying to input the EWS username and password, although you did not create one. You have tried a few combinations from recommendations you seen on the Forums with no success. Please follow the steps listed below:

1. Access the Embedded Web Server using the Printers IP address

2. Go to the Settings option along the top

3. On the left hand side, select the Restore Defaults option

4. Restore the defaults

Was this successful? Please let me know the outcome, I will watch for your reply.

Thanks,

HevnLgh
