HP Laserjet P2055dn
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HP Laserjet P2055dn printer does not print after windows 10 update. Have tried the following:

Unplugged usb cable rebooted and replugged in usb cable to launch Plug and play  >>>> Did not work

Ran Windows 10 printer trouble shooter>>>>> Did not work

Ran HP Print Doctor trouble shooter>>>>> Did Not work

Removed printer from devices and Printers & rebooted >>> Did not work

Removed Printer and all printer Drivers for this printer reinstalled printer maually with Universal Driver >>>  Installed driver butDid not work

Tried updating driver via Device manager>>>> Did not work

Swapped USB cable with known good cable>>>> Did not work

Checked windows updates for any addtional updates is current and up to date on updates.

Tried Disabling firewall and reinstalling printer >>>>did not work

Verified printer can print via  printer reports>>>> Prints fine

Tried another USB port on the computer>>>>did not work

HP Print Doctor was able to print and comunicate but printer won't print test page via windows and still cannot print

Any other Ideas? Rolling back on updates is not really an option  but  could try it.

I have other HP2055dn printers that print fine on both Windows 10 and windows 7. Currently a mixed environment on network with Windows 7 and windows 10 PC's

Dell optiplex 9020 PC 16 gb Ram Windows 10 64bit OS

Hi,
You try download driver file on HP.com?
HP Recommended

Yes down loaded latest PCL6 driver from HP Site. Tried The PCL 6 driver loaded fine but still doesn't print

Tries the Post Script Driver>>>> No go either.

Tried rolling back to the more stable PCL 5 driver>>>> No go.

My next thought is to try updating the USB drivers?

When you tried this, did the plug and play event work at all? did you see any activity on Windows like a plug and play event was launching?

I've seen some wierd things happen on computers that updated from 7to10- If no plug and play event occured at all, maybe try using a different USB port (preferably a 2.0 port and not a 3.0 port which will have some type of blue plastic identifier) on the PC, you may need to move your mouse or keyboard to a different port to free up a 2.0 port.

@ tonerspills That is the weird thing, no plug and play  activity happened at  all. I have tried both usb 2.0 and 3.0 ports.

However,  it is like somehow an old setting or driver is still  cached and so it thinks that it already is installed ? I have gone into device manager and verified that when I initially removed the printer and drivers that the printer was not listed as an active device. At this time, (it currently is listed , as i downloaded  and installed the driver from HP.) Going to double check all services to make sure plug- n-play is not disabled, print spooler is on, windows update is working etc. etc.

was this computer an upgrade from 7-10 and this probem started happening or was this printer already functioning on Windows 10? Can always try running a manual update on Windows 10 just to make certain everything uploaded and installed correctly.

Is this printer running the same firmware as the other working printers? Sometimes firmware will fix issues, but it seems more likely that something is off in windows on this particular workstation rather than with the printer.

I suppose there is the off chance of a hardware problem on the printer- probably the easiest way to test that would be to move a laptop close to the printer and try and USB connection and see if it launches a plug and play event- odd coincidence the USB port would fail, and I think you are on the right track with some sort of USB driver incompatability or software conflict in Windows.

PC was upgraded from windows 7 to windows 10 earlier. Everything worked fine after initial update. Firmware is same as several other printers. Things went south after the latest windows 10 update. I  would roll back but windows 10 has now managed to even disable the Global Policy settings regarding updates in order to force updates. I seriously wish MS would back off and let the user decide how, when and what updates it wants to install. I like windows 10 but MS update fiasco is causing many headaches in the Corporate IT world. I am convinced that the last update broke something but for the life of me I can't figure out what it did to break things, since it does not appear to have happened on every machine with the windows 10 and this model of printer. I will update after i try to update  USB drivers . If that does not work I am rolling back to a previous restore point.

Apter update Windows, you try:
1. Turn off Printer.
2. Go Device and Printer, select Remove Device all Printer HP 2055d present (Remove all driver of HP, because I think they have problem).
3. Restart computer.
4. Turn on Printer and wait about 5 minute to Windows auto find driver your Printer.
5. Restart computer again.
If Windows know your Printer is HP Universal PCL6 is OK.
Good luck!

@dungleviet67 yup already tried that.... problem was WIndows didn't see it as a new device waited for a good half hourfor it to try and find it  but it never did. That is why I am thinking there is something in registry or somewhere where it thinks it already has a driver and therefore won't re-install. Forgot to mention that  user of this PC is actively trying to do their normal activity so my access to machine is during times when she isn't busy using it. I have mapped her to a nearby network printer so she can still print if see needs to.

Hi!

You sure:

1. Updated windows (last).

2. Try with other cable USB.

3. Use your printer with other computer and other system (as Windows 8.1 x64).

Note: I saw same problem as you (Oct 6 2016). I using win10 (x64) and printer HP P2055d and printing ok now. I using driver of windows (auto) and don't use drivers of HP. I chated with HP and they said I never think that drivers o HP have problem!?
