I recently purchased an new HP 8600 n911 premium all-in-one, HP's top of the line all in one inkjet printer/scanner.  I cannot find any settings that permit me to descreen an image (such as one in a newspaper) or to adjust the size of the target image.  Is there additional software that will permit me to do this or am I missing something in the software provided by HP?

I'm not completely sure on this, but I think the reason the software on the all in ones doesn't include any descreen options is because they already have to bundle so much software together that adding more options might make the software more combersome.  HP does make software that includes descreen options, but it's on the higher end ScanJet single function scanners only.  Sorry.

You would need software form a third party to have this option.  The free software that comes with the 8600 doesn't have an option for that. Vuescan is the only software I could find that says it works with your pritner and has a descreen option.  You have to purchase it, but it will give you more advanced options than the software that came with the printer.

Thanks.  I will check into Vuescan.  I am disappointed that HP did not include a descreen or target size adjustment in the printer software.  It would not surprise me if that were the case for a low end all-in-one, but a high end one should have those options.

I checked and confirmed that VueScan does work with this printer/scanner and that it does descreen when the selected input is newspaper or magazine.  It ia also possible to choose a target image size.    I just wish that I did not have to pay another $80 at this point.

Earlier versions of HP's all-in-one with a legal sized scanning bed did have the descreen functionality. This is the third or fourth HP all-in-one of this size that I have owned.  I would encourage HP to include descreening and adjustable target image size if they decide to update the software.

20 years ago newsprint scans could be easily descreened.

Do I have to pay big bucks to HP now for this onece common feature?
