This question concerns an HP Color LaserJet CP1215 Printer.

After calibrating my printer using the HP Tool Box, my color prints are printing with too much yellow toner.

undefined

The toner is not leaking.  I had a leaking toner last year, but after I cleaned my printer and purchased the new toner the images were printing normally.  However, sometimes when I calibrate my printer this issue occurs.  Sometimes, after I print dozens of pages the yellow eventually recedes, but this is an incredible waste.

Can I manually calibrate my printer?

Is there somewhere I can go to say print with 60% less yellow?  I have used an older printer before, and I was able to adjust the percentage of toner used as well as the lightness and darkness of the print.  If you know a way to do this, please share, because it would be tremendously helpful.

If not, what else can I do to permanently resolve this issue other than purchase a new printer from another brand?

I just wish to let everyone know that I contacted several printer servicing businesses, but the guy from MarchTEK is the only one who after listening me describe my problem said that the only issue could be with the toner and not the printer (without asking me to pay $$ for "assesment").

I couldn't believe it, because I have just replaced my toner.  However, it turns out he was right.  I bought another toner, replaced it, and now my printer works fine.

Therefore if you encounter too much yellow in your prints, and perform everything suggested here, and you still have too much yellow replace your toner again.

Hope this helps!

Hello Mili101,

Welcome to the HP Forums! Smiley Happy Thank you for providing a picture on this post to show your exact issue!

I understand your Laserjet CP1215 is printing too much yellow toner. I will do my best to resolve this issue! You're able to adjust color in the "Print Settings" on your computer. Please follow this HP document on Managing Color.

What is your operating system on your computer? Windows or Mac?

Also, for additional steps please follow this entire HP document on Resolving Print Quality Issues.

Please let me know if these documents resolves your issue or not. If this doesn't, I will assist you further.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thank you for responding Cheetah12. I have seen both of those documents before. I have tried the steps suggested in both. The trouble is they all deal with toners as a unit. I would like to adjust just one toner. What is really strange is that none of the diagnostic printouts show any trouble at all (at least none that I could tell).

It has nothing to do with the programs I use either, because the same happens weather I'm printing form Word or from Ps.

I use Windows 7 Professional version.

The only thing I have done is to calibrate the colors before this whole trouble started (I do that before printing images to insure the colors are properly aligned because sometimes there is a thin red line around certain shapes). I did read that HP had trouble with yellow toners leaking, but this one does not have the tell-a-talle pigment on the drum. I have cleaned the printer several times just in case using the toolbox but nothing changed.

Is there anything else you can suggest?

Thank you for trying to help.

Thank you for this updated information. :generic:

I noticed you're printing images, which could be a factor why you are experiencing this problem. When you're printing these images, are you printing on normal paper or photo paper?

You stated that the "Diagnostic Report" printed out with no detective colors. This would indicate that you don't have a problem with your toners. If you were having a problem with your toners (Hardware Issue), then you would see an unsatisfactory page. (Note, this page is coming from your printer to resemble the quality of your toners.)

Please verify this information and I will assist you further.

You are welcome, Cheetah12.

To answer your question: I sometimes print images on normal laser paper, and sometimes on photo paper, or card stock. I always select the appropriate option from the printer menu. I have not had trouble before. The printer worked fine with all the papers. The current trouble came about when I calibrated the printer. I do not know why it is adding more yellow to the image. The images printed fine on my friend's printer.

The trouble with diagnostic report pages is that I have no idea how they are supposed to look. Is the top colour on the full colour page suppose to look yellow-orange, or is it a more red-orange? Reviewing the printed pages again, I have noticed that on the "Self Test / Configuration" page the first three squares of yellow (next to "Page Counts") look to be the same in tonal value while the rest of the colours (blue, violet, pink, orange, green) and the black values seem to range 100/75/50/25.

Does this help?

I apologise for not replying sooner.

Thank you again Mili101 for this updated information :generic:

That's great you're selecting the appropriate settings when printing on different media paper. When you're printing photo's, are you selecting the "Quality" tab to best? Yes, this is odd when you're calibrate the printer, it's adding more yellow toner. Have you tried to "Calibrate" your printer again? Usually, by calibrating your printer, it should improve he quality.

I will provide a picture of what the "Configuration Page" should look like here:

Example of a calibration page

Let me know what colors are different to your page. It seems like you're having a print quality issue with your printer, but I will wait for your response to let me know what is different on this page.

Looking forward to hearing from you again! Sorry I couldn't respond sooner! Have a great day.

Hi Ashley!

I'm all over the place these days, so I completely understand responding within a day or two.

My yellow is definitely off. Looking at your provided page I can see 4 distinctive yellow squares on the left. On my page, the first three yellow squares look exactly the same, with the last square being slightly lighter. Everything else looks relatively the same.

I do not know how to post a photo with iPad, but if you would like to see my page I could take a photo in a couple of days and post it here.

Hope this helps!

Hello! :generic:

Yes, it does sound like the Yellow toner is off and the other colors are fine. Could you please post a picture of your "Configuration Page", so I could take a look at it?

Also, is this printer still under warranty?

Looking forward to hearing from you!
