Scanner not working. Printer works. I don’t use fax.
I cannot remove HP Officejet 6500 E710n-z Basic Device Software from my Windows 7 computer. I am trying to remove it so I can reinstall to fix an issue with my scanner. My computer does not recognize the 6500 scanner. This worked at one time but is now failing to work. I do not know why or what happened to make this fail. Using the Control panel uninstall does not work. Seems to go through the motions and then a couple of error messages and it backs out. I just want to get a clean install.
I do have the install disk, however it does not have the utils/ccc folder that should include the uninstall files.
I also have tried to install the new programs and drivers with a download. Nothing seems to get my scanner back.

Hi BobFr,
Welcome to the HP Forums!
I see that you cannot uninstall your HP Officejet 6500 E710n completely, and that you cannot scan. I am happy to help you with this uninstall/scanning issue!
For a complete uninstall, please try a level-three uninstall by following this guide. Fatal Error 'Error 1155. Not Found.' (MSI Error 1155) Displays During Software Installation in Windo.... This still applies to Windows 7.
Also, please try our HP Print and Scan Doctor, and let me know what happens.
Hope this helps you, and have a great day!

Thanks for your input but no matter what I do, I always end up with this:
Error 3: Failed to copy port monitor files.
and then it backs off the install or uninstall whichever function I am trying.
I tried several of the the ones you suggested. I also went to FixIt and ended up with no luck there either.
