have a working F4480 All-In-One that has worked with a Verizon Wireless/wired router/modem for about a year and a half. It has been connected thru a USB switch to the router and has worked for my WIN7Pro desktop and my new WIN8.1 laptop as long as it is used with USB.
At one point I had it working wirelessly thru the Verizon Router/Modem then it stopped for some reason. I have searched the web including the HP website, have downloaded and reinstalled the drivers, and have tried every combo to make it work. My wireless laptop does recognize that the printer exists, while not USB connected, but when I ask it to print nothing happens. The printer has an error and stores the unprinted documents in que.
What top do?

Hi TheTechGuy

I can help you get the Deskjet F4480 onto your wireless network. If you connect the USB cable to your WIndows 7 computer, not your modem/router, and then use the software to configure the printer for the wireless network, you should have success.

If you don't have the software installed on the Windows 7, please use the following link to download and install the software. HP Deskjet F4400 All-in-One Printer series Full Feature Software and Driver.

If you have any difficulty, post back with as much detail as you can to help me better assist you. Thanks.

Sunshyn2005, thanks for reply. Unfortunately I didn't elaborate more. The issue isn't with the WIN7 desktop, but rather the WIN8.1 laptop. Sorry. Absolutely no connection issue with either machine on USB. It was trying to configure the laptop with network capabilities to operate thru the Verizon modem/router without the desktop being powered up. Obviously the printer is only connectable thru USB and perhaps the only reason it managed to work uinitially, was the desktop with the printer connected, appeared on the laptop network search and allowed the communication thru it to print.

Hi TheTechGuy,

Please pardon the delay. If you still require assistance, I am still here to help. Have you ran the HP Print and Scan Doctor?

The HP Print and Scan Doctor is a free utility (tool) that helps to quickly resolve common printing, scanning and connectivity issues including but not limited to:

  • Connectivity :
USB: Verifies that the USB connection from your computer to the HP product is working correctly.
Network: Verifies that the network connection between your computer and your network is working correctly.
  • Device Status Test : Checks for device errors such as out of paper, paper jams, carriage stalls, and paper feed issues, and then provides instructions for fixing the error.
  • Driver Check : Checks for missing or corrupt driver files.
  • Device Manager : Checks for problems in Device Manager that would prevent printing.
  • Device Online : Checks if the product has been paused or set to offline, and then sets the status back to online if necessary.
  • Print Queue : Checks for and clears pending print jobs in the print queue (a log of print jobs waiting to print).
  • Port Match : Checks the port settings for the HP product.
  • Device Conflicts : Checks for conflicts with other drivers, such as other printer brands.
  • Ink Issues : Checks the cartridges and ink levels for issues that affect print quality.
  • Print Settings : Checks and adjusts the print quality settings.
  • Test Print : Prints a test page for print quality evaluation, and provides options for cleaning and aligning the printhead if necessary.
  • Scan Tests : Checks the scan mechanism, drivers, and registry entries.
You can also click the Printer menu to find the additional features such as cleaning printheads, aligning printheads, checking ink levels, and viewing advanced printer data for your selected printer.

Can you please run the PSDR and let me know the outcome. You will see a wrench, a yellow exclamation mark, a red X, or a green check mark next each tested item.

Click here to download and run the utility > HP Print and Scan Doctor

It sounds to me like it could be a firewall or anti virus that is blocking the communication.

Security Information and Firewalls.

Let me know how this works out. I will get back to you promptly.

Hi Sunshyn2005,

No the issue is still there and I have given up based on what I know so far.

Since the printer is USB operational only, I have to assume there is no networking capabilities, unless as previously commented, the desktop PC is on and the wireless connection is "thru" the PC.
Since you have responded with some troubleshooting, I suspect that the printer being USB only is not a total negative here.

I only kept digging into a solution since it was apparent, though not confirmed by me, that it did print wirelessly initially, but again, the PC may have been on and this explained it. The whole intention was to rid the PC as this laptop was to replace it completely.

this was for my Dad's machine and he's not about to get a new network printer, cheap as some are. He's 93! This was given to him as a gift but not enough thought went into the printer limitations or it may not have happened.

BTW: I did try that download and nothing appeared to help. It just circled around and around without a final solution, which again, I assume is because it is not a wireless printer per se'.

thanks for your extensive efforts here.
