Same here. Let me know if you find a solution

Didn't work for my 6978. I've tried everything your website suggested. Too bad HP doesn't have real people providing real solutions to long time customers.

DID. NOT. WORK.

I have similarly wasted about 4 hours trying to enable scanning to my new (HP) laptop.

I do not want to use HP Cloud. I want to scan directly to my laptop as I have been doing up to now.

Printing is wireless connected and works.

  1. Installed FULL software – fails Wireless connection
  2. Installed HP Print & Scan Doctor - fails Wireless connection / cannot communicate
  3. Connect via USB – success
  4. Change USB connection to Wireless – fail
  5. Uninstall / reinstall / reboot countless times
  6. Constantly fighting with ‘HP Smart’ installation
  7. Windows Scan & Fax / Windows Scan work

So I have given up, I am using Windows Scan which is so inferior to the HP software I have been using but I am not going to use a USB connection (and go back to the stone age)

HP Recommended

I solved this by downloading the Windows Scan App from the Windows App Store

It's less pretty than HP Smart but works

Hi @Me97  and all,

Can try this standalone scan  solution?

HP Scan Extended

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/scanners/HPScanExt/HPScanExt.msi

(Copy the link address and and paste in a new window)

Once it's downloaded and installed, go to Start > All Programs > HP > HP Scan Extended > Run "HP Scan Extended"

Hope that helps!

I am an HP Employee. Although I am speaking for myself and not for HP.

Correctly configured there should be no need to connect to cloud. The user guide explains the setup very clearly and it is good place to start

Yes, that is the solution I ended up with ... "So I have given up, I am using Windows Scan ..."

Scanning won't connect over wifi (although the printer functionality is fine) so as I don't want to connect by USB I can't set it up "correctly"
