Sorry for hiatus ... I was under work deadline.

I did the *6 idea you sent me by email, but that did nothing to reset anything. The printer screen continues to say "digital fax error" and nothing prints from computer.

I've been loathe to uninstall and reinstall the driver because before the printer went out, the scanner went out and it took, literally 2-1/2 years to get it back and unfortunately, I don't know which exactly of my jiggles fixed it, and have been afraid to re-do the driver for fear of dislodging the scanner again.

This has been a veritable nightmare as I assume you can imagine.

Wish me luck with the uninstall.

PS I did the clear fax angle a long time ago and that didn't do anthing either.

Hi @anderson1947,

Make sure the fax cable isn't plugged into the printer when the printer is being installed. During the installation you should have had the option to skip the fax setup.

Try and access the printer's Embedded Web Server if the printer is on the network again and delete the Digital Profile to see if that will help.

By typing the printer's IP address into your web browser.

Click on the Fax tab.

Select HP Digital Fax.

Delete the content for the user profile for the Digital Fax.

If the issue continues, please Contact HP Support for further assistance. Fill in the model number and the form to receive a case number for quicker assistance. They have access to remote into your computer to see what is going on. Thank you.

I reinstalled the HP driver w/o the phone line in the printer (there is no fax cable), but still was forced to go through the fax stuff.

I also deleted the digital fax IP address, but the "Digital Fax Error" continued to remain on the printer screen and printing from the computer was still not functioning.

However, I was called by an HP center and, after a long series of checks, which confirmed my experience that it is impossible to turn off the fax functionality, he tried changing the printer port on the computer and, for reasons that elude me, that worked, and I can now print from the computer, even though that error message remains on the printer screen.

Thanks though for your suggestions. -- peter
