Hello again chrissybea,

I suggest that we start off by running the HP Print and Scan Doctor for Windows.

If you see any error codes or messages, please let me know what they are.

To get the all the options for the resolution, please make sure you are using the flat bed and not the ADF.  The ADF is limited and you will not have all options when scanning.

If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: click here.

Thanks for your time.

I opened HP Scan in my computer's start menu. The option to use the document feeder was selected (which only has a max of 300 dpi). I saw that I could select "Always Scan From Glass" from the drop down menu and ran a test scan. Worked fine. Used the touch screen, and items placed on the glass are now scanning at 600 dpi. (Haven't tried the doc feeder, but I'm not interested in that at this point.) I just had to step away from the printer for a while and think about what I was doing. I knew there was a dialog box somewhere I could use to control the settings. Found it! I can select up to 1200 dpi for scanning now that I changed that scanning option.

I wasn't using the ADF, but it was checked in the HP Scan dialog box. I just had to figure out how to "de-select" that option, and select the option to always scan from the glass.

Hey - great stuff! I had a look and yep, it was the same here - looks like you've solved the puzzle :generic: ! (Though I'm a bit disappointed that there aren't any mid-settings between 300, 600, and 1200 dpi.)

Thanks for sharing!

I was having that same problem with my OfficeJet Pro 7740. As a matter of fact, every time I try to scan beyond 300 dpi I get incorrect areas of scan; that is, I select an area, and it doesn't scan it completely.
