Thank you in advance for your replies and direction.
For some reason i have been unable to get my PC to print at all (no test pages either). I just rebuilt my PC with Windows 7, I have done this literally 100 times before and have never encountered this dilemma. I installed software from Cd given from manufacturer, all went well. Installation was done initially with the USB unplugged and then plugged in when asked by the software. Every attempt at printing (including test pages) sends to que then times out with a non specific error. I have used the HP Print and Scan Doctor software and sometimes (i have tried it 4 times) it will just "hang" upon the "communicating with device" field. Other times it will breeze through showing all green check marks in that software showing no conflict (it is then that i attempt to print a test page with no results). I have downloaded what i believe to be the latest drivers from HP (DJ1050_J410_1313). After uninstalling the CD original software, I installed the new drivers in the same manner with still no joy. The last known response seen on my PC was the "door" was shut and needed to be opened to print (this was several days ago at this posting). So, I do seem to have communication, when I open the interior door to access the ink cartridges during printing, HP's software warning me to close doors to continue printing does pop up (this was simply my attempt at troubleshooting whether there was communication between the printer and my PC). I have tried printing from, Outlook, Word, Notepad, HP software, Email (online) all with the same resulting events. My printer is set to default. Also set on USB001 Virtual Print Driver with my usb port (as it is hard wired to my PC). I did attempt to change the main usb wire with another, still communication but no printing. I am not completely PC illiterate, but i have to admit no small amount of frustration and loss of direction.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I just attempted a flushing of my registry to verify there were no conflicts with dual entries or drivers and found none. Cleaned registry all the same and attempted to print a Word document and still same results.
I realized I should explain some of the other things i have tried: Restarting the PC (twice). Restarting the Print Spooler in Services. Unplugging the power cord and waiting 15 seconds to plug it back in. Dancing a Jig, walking around my chair.....anything you can think of to get this printer back (okay...maybe not that extreme, it just feels that way)
Thank you again

Hi @mrewho
I know this can be a frustrating experience, I am happy to work through this with you. At first glace it appears you have done everything but howl at the moon, I mean you did a jig, that should have done the trick!
Do you have the printer USB cable connected to a 2.0 port or a 3.0 port on the computer? I am sure you know the difference, but for other community members who may refer to our conversation for help, here is an image to see what to look for;
3.0 ports are supposed to be backwards compatible, but I have seen issues arise when using them for printers.
If you are already connected to a 2.0 port we can try something else I don't think you have tried yet, the Printer Install Wizard. I know you have uninstalled and reinstalled several times between jigs and chair circling, but have you tried the Printer Install Wizard (PIW)?
If not, please uninstall your software again, then remove the driver from the Server Properties if is does not get removed during the uninstall , then use the PIW.
- Uninstall the software again - Uninstalling the Printer Software Instructions
1. In the ‘Devices and Printers’ folder
2. Choose ‘Print server properties’.
- Win XP – With no printer selected, click ‘File’ then ‘Server Properties’.
- Windows Vista – With no printer selected, press ‘Alt’ then click ‘File’ then ‘Server Properties’.
- Windows 7/8 and 8.1 – Select any printer in the ‘Devices and Printers’ folder and click ‘Print Server properties’ above.
3. Click on the ‘Drivers’ tab at the top of ‘Print server properties’ window
4. Choose the printer you want to uninstall and click ‘Remove’
5. Choose 'Remove driver only'
6. The next screen will give a warning, letting you know that deleting the driver package will remove it from the system. Click ‘Yes’ to say that you are sure you want to do this.
- Download and run the HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows
Please return to let me know if this resolves the issue, thanks. Fingers crossed!

Thank you so much for your reply!
Sadly, I must report the HP Printer Install Wizard would not work for me. It continued to cancel my download, for about a half an hour or so I continued to press the button for retrying the download with no success.
I did confirm I am using USB 2.0. Truthfully my PC is too old for 3.0 ports. Software wise I may have the 3.0 driver natively installed, but I believe it is inactive as I do not have the ports for such a driver use.
I will continue to attempt to use the wizard, all other steps you directed I was able to successfully accomplish. Now, if only the Utility would work. It seems as a completely viable option. And, if nothing else, it is something I have not tried before, and since my dancing skills seem not to make any difference I might as well try this huh?
Thanks again for your direction....

Oh my, well if Print Install Wizard continues to give you a hard time, you could also try running the Print and Scan Doctor. It should prompt you and assist you with the software install.
I must admit though, I am puzzled, this is certainly a head scratcher!! Keep me posted on your results and I will happily do all I can to help.

After Updating my computer (windows update) and restarting my PC. The Print Install Wizard was able to download the latest drivers (which I thought I already had, same name and everything) and installed. I pressed print Test page to verify the install.....and.....it was a miracle! My HP Printer printed!
I want to thank you for your patience and diligence in all your helpful suggestions in this endeavor. I was certainly on the verge of giving up hope in the printer.
I will make sure to note to those whom I know are dealing with Printer difficulties to head here for wise solutions (after they have at least attemted some repair guidance from me :smileyhappy:).
Thank you again so much!
