I didn't take anything apart.  What I was trying to do was to slide the little black cover out (with my thumb underneath -on the cover - and other four fingers on the touch screen above. I didn't succeed in getting the cover off and  I really don't know what I did but whatever - it did the trick.  Sorry I can't be of more help

This has been posted here before, but I'll repeat.....

Lift up the scanner bed cover. Just above the touch screen you will see three plastic screw covers. Use a thin edge screwdriver to prise them off (carefully) and then undo the screws...thats it. There are two cables going into the screen module. Note which one goes where. Sometimes it can just be as simple as reseating the cables after cleaning them.

The design of the screen is poor, because it puts pressure on the cables if you move the screen a lot. My advice is to leave it alone in one place. It may not be the cable though, see earlier entries in this thread if you run into the other cause of the white screen problem.

If you look at the new versions of this printer you will notice two things - (1) they changed the screen because this one is a defective design (2) it no longer has a hinge (guess why?).

Thank you very much for your post.  At the moment my screen is working well - but I am going to print out your reply so that I have it handy should my problem recur  (which is quite likely as it is possible that I have only partially  connected the wires  by my method)

Hello all, This is my last post as there is NO fix other than a new screen Period...I took this all apart and brought it to my Instrumantation guys at work to verify what I found was nearly impossible to change that component on the circuit board. The cable swap out, the turning off and on and all the other quick fixes did not work. SHAME on HP for not making good on all these printers because its obviously a bad part. I WILL NEVER BUY A HP product again and again PERIOD, DONE!!! You all have a great day.

Summary

(1)

It is not the screen itself, it is something on the main board which fries the caps on the screen board

(2)

Changing the screen will not be permanent because of (1)

(3)

Changing the cap is easy, I've done it (see earlier posts)

(4)

The printer is junk anyway, get something else.

It's been over a year since I replaced the screen, and it still works as good as new!

I bought a replacement screen on eBay, a used part for $14. It was fairly easy to swap out, and has worked perfectly for the last year and 3 months. I tried all of the other fixes here and listed on other forums. None of those did anything. It seems to be a hardware problem, and a very common one!

lost the damned display on my 8600 Pro today.

Thanks to users <w-j-l>, <skipper_bob> ,<Lionel-FR> there seems to be a solution for the problem: Replace the faulty C365 SMD capacitor on the display board.

After reading all posts on the thread, the only not answered question is: What's the correct capacity value for the replacment part and the recommended voltage range ?

Can someone solve the mystery ?
