My printer shows up in my control panel as there. It still does not print from files that I send to it. It copies, it scans, but it refuses to print files.  I could not find the specific HP printer that I have in the choices needed to specify it, so I had to choose HP 5000 PS which was as close as I could get.  I downloaded the drivers but no luck so far. Has anyone ever been able to talk to an HP customer service person?  I think HP is a 'black hole" so far as that is concerned.

Please read this post then provide some details.  What printer model? What operating system? Do you have a 32 bit or 64 bit version? How is the printer connected - USB, wired LAN, Wireless LAN, bluetooth?

The 5000PS is a Postscript driver, it is not likely to work with a consumer level inkjet printer.

In you want to speak with support you will need to Contact HP. If you are in the US call 1-800-HPINVENt.  There will likely be a charge if your printer is not in warranty.

I finally found a customer service number, called it, talked to a lady in India, she took over my computer and downloaded the appropriate software (even newer than what I had) and it works fine.  Best $25 I ever spent on computer help.  (p.s. it is 32 bit)

the idea of downloading the files is not enough I did all that you suggested but it only allows me to print from my computer, I cannot use my scanner or copy anything.again I downloaded all required files & it wasnt enough.

If you have Windows 7 then see the information in this link in using the built-in functions for scanning.

Look at the top of this page, click on the "Support and Drivers" link.  Next enter your printer model, then select the operating system.  Download the appropriate driver and then run the install file.  Do not connect the printer until instructed to by the installer.
