HP Deskjet 5550
Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit)

At work, we have a Windows 7 computer and wanting to hook up a HP Deskjet 550 printer to it, but they can not find the Installation disk.  How can this be done?  Can I download the installation to a flash drive or CD on an internet connected computer and then install it to the non-internet computer?

Hi,

Probably the printer is too old, no available driver on its home page:

Please use Learn more as shown

Unfortunately, you have no internet connection. Can you share internet connection elsewhere ?

Regards.

Hi, @Diane1959 :

See if this works...download and save the 1st file on the list at the link below.

http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=Deskjet%205550

Download and install this free file utility.  Select the bit version you are going to install 7-zip on, at the top of the page.

http://www.7-zip.org/

After you install 7-Zip, right click on the printer driver file you downloaded, and select 7-Zip from the menu.

Have 7-Zip Extract to:  And let it extract the file into its folder name.

Copy the driver folder 7-zip created to a usb flash drive, and then copy that to a folder on the non-internet PC.

Once that is done, do the normal steps to add your printer using the add printer wizard.

When asked to install the driver, click on the Have Disk option, browse to the driver folder 7-Zip created>prnhp001, and select the hp deskjet 5550 series (HPA) printer from the list, and see if the driver installs that way.
