I used to be able to print on cardstock without any issues. I prefer to print in fast draft mode because it's quicker and saves on ink.

I noticed recently when I try to print on cardstock the print is not lining up right. It starts printing about a 2-3 inches below the start of the text or image. Doesn't matter if it's a word document, excel, pdf file, or jpg. Doesn't matter if it's text or an image. The printing misses the first 2-3" of what I want printed.

No problem printing on regualar paper. Just card stock. I tried adjusting the different paper qualities in my settings, but that didn't work. Besides, those other options only allow me to print in regualar mode which takes f o r e v e r .

How can I get this working like it used to?

I'm having same issue as https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Inkjet-Printing/problem-printing-card-stock/td-p/5955176.

I also tried just printing a copy on the printer and it still did not print correctly.

I don't have "cardstock" option in my settings to select from.

But that shouldn't matter. I used to have no problems printing on cardstock using the plain paper setting in draft mode. Something changed. Some update that changed the printer?

Hello, @Nancy33 - Greetings!

Thanks for the continued participation in HP support forums! I would be glad to be of your assistance 🙂

I understand that you are having issues while printing using the cardstock media. I would suggest resetting the printing system to first change the settings to its default state. Follow the steps below:

  • Click the Apple menu icon, and then click “System Preferences”.
  • Click “Printers and Scanner” / “Print and Scan” or “Print and Fax”.
  • Right-click the blank space in the Printers list, and then click “Reset printing system”.
  • Click “Reset” in the confirmation window.
  • Enter an administrator username and password, and then click “OK”.
  • Wait until the printing system is reset and no devices show in the Printers list
  • Restart your computer and then go back to System preferences – Printers and scanners.
  • Click the “Add button” (+).
  • Find, and then select the name of your printer from the printer list, and then click “Add” to add your printer.
  • Click “Print Using...”, and then select the name of your printer (By default “Airprint” would be selected)

Now, try printing on the cardstock media and check. You can check http://hp.care/2iVzxWz if you need to change the print quality settings.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.

Have a great day 🙂

It's even worst now. Won't print on the card stock at all. 😞

Hello, @Nancy33

Thanks for the reply!

I suggest checking the printer hardware first.

Let's try making a photocopy on the cardstock paper. That way we can eliminate the use of the computer and hence can test the printer capability of handling the cardstock paper. Place a document face down on the scanner glass and press the copy option on the printer control panel. Now go to the copy settings and change the paper type and the paper size matching to the cardstock paper that you have loaded. Once the settings are changed, try making a copy and let me know if it makes a good copy or not.

Thanks! I'll watch for your reply!

Good luck 🙂

Hello @Nancy33

Thanks for the update!

If the copy is also doing the same thing, then the issue could be with the printer hardware. I would suggest contacting HP phone support for further assistance.

You can visit http://www.support.hp.com/contact-hp and fill in your product details to get the tech support number.

(1) Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.

(2) Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.

(3) Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.

(4) Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

Visit us again if you have any concerns! Thank you!

Have a great day!
