how do I update the lcd list?

How do I "upgraded LCD list"....????

As PCWIZARD reported elsewhere, this link provides the solution that worked for my Officejet 8500 Pro A909g:

This solution is also temporary. It works for awhile, then back to the same error message again. I don't know if the computer going into 'sleep' mode does it, or something else, but the only solution is to either scan from the computer or turn the printer off for a half minute and then back on. Since this is so inconvenient, this should be done a few times a week by shutting it off when leaving home or going to bed.  Ugh.

How do I upgrade my LCD List?

Maybe this is too easy, but it worked for me...

On your computer, click into the HP Solution Center.

Go to the Settings, Scan Settings, and Buttons menu.

For Front Panel Scan Buttons, uncheck "prompt for settings at time of scan."

If SCAN from control panel doesn't work. you may go for alternative to do scan.

1. Lauch the Hp Scan application and scan it

or you can use paint program and click file-> Select From scanner or camera and do scan.

Sorry, I couldn't fix earlier issue.

Here is the "fix" that works for me:  Forget trying to scan using the printer keyboard when this asinine HP error appears.  Instead go to Programs > HP > HP Solution Center.  This is the printer software that was part of the printer installation process.  Don't click on Document Center.  Click on Solution Center.  Once there, click on Scan Document.  You should then see the dialogue screens you are used to seeing when you scan from the printer keyboard (when it actually works).  This is the only way I have ever found around this{Content Removed: Language Filter Evasion} problem after many hours of frustration.

HP has the WORST software in the world and there is NO EXCUSE for this problem affecting so many people.  Making it worse, the HP employee on this board could not even help and did not follow up with a solution later after checking with an engineer at HP.  PATHETIC.  Avoid HP products in the future - I know I will !  Too bad what this once fantastic and proud Silicon Valley pioneer company has become - a cheap peddler or junk hardware, poor software, overpriced ink, and pathetic customer service.

Cheers,

I took the simple advice of "turn the printer off then turn it back on" and it worked for me. I was able to then scan in all the "Scan Shortcuts" my printer has on the display screen.
