Thanks hoard_master.

 

You have saved me and my coworkers hours of hitting our heads against this printer series.The issue was that the printer would prioritize the smart install and present itself to the computer as USB drive no matter what, even after the install. Turning off the smart install forced the printer to plug and play itself, and since I had the drivers installed from a previous installation, it worked like a charm.

hi all.

I spend many hours for solve this issue.

So, my way to solve have few points:

1) this problem is appear because of HP Smart install utility in autorun in the dashboard of printer.

Because of this utility my (i think not only my) PC recognise  my HP M401DN as usb-cd-Rom with HP Smart Install utility(instead of printer!!!).

So many solution I found in the internet.

BUT!

 So many peoples recomend to disable HP Smart install via touch panel of printer.

Look like this was a solution of this problem.

BUT!

For russian users there is one "underwater stone".

In my case - russian version of touch panel menu haven't  point menu "service" (this is first step to switch off our HP Smart install).

2) On my way solution was : change menu language to english -> then appear menu "service" -> there I can switch off HP Smart Utility.

Of course - after switching off - need to restart printer.

3) Happy point  - install drivers like ordinary printer.

Hello Dear Sir.
I have Pro 400 m401a printer it's not installing I tried alot but it doesn't My PC Windows is Xp 1st step will complete ( extracting ) then 2nd step 2 options I selected then again error that it give a message 1 goto control panel 2 service 3 disable Smart install but my Pc doesn't have smart install option in service menu list what should I do now please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please help me please please please
